[SOLVED] Windows Update (and other) Erros! 0x80070005

hi again,

two days ago, i started some Updates with Flightsimulator and decided to Update Windows aswell. After installing KB5014699 and rebooting, i didnt have sound anymore on my PC.....

Checked the Device Drivers i found that windows couldnt start Windows Audio Service. Trying to start it manully runs into error, access denied (0x80070005).

I then changed the Service Login to "Local System - Interact with Desktop choosed".

Unfortunally, it dit not help - the Service starts now, but Audio still not working. Checking Windows Update to get an new driver maybe fails with: "We have a Problem checking for updates"..... So it seems yet another failure with WSUS....

Next steps:
1: run sfc /scannow - it found errors the could be resolved.... rebooting; still no sound. Running sfc again didnt show any results.
2: DISM /online /cleanup-image /AnalyzeComponentStore
3: uninstalled KB5014699
4: reboot.... no Audio, no WSUS
5: run sfcfix - no errors found
6: Creating this thread :)

i was able to fix the audio Problem by running Windows setup.exe again, keep apps and documents.

But the Windows Update is still broken. very confusing, cause wsusofflineupdateCE1261 is running fine:

Rebootet.... still no luck on Windows Update. Ill keep you up2date :)

yes, the Main Problem is still present. Im able to Update with WSUSOffline Update CE so far, but not within Control Panel > Windows Update & Security.
Ive just rerun all the steps to provide most current logs. You can find the cbs logs attached. Thanks for any help

I think the best way to look into this error might be to run Process Monitor while you are trying to update using Windows Update when you know there is an update waiting. Stop process Monitor after the error is reported and then save the Process Monitor log file and share it via OneDrive or Dropbox etc.

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Try updating the system just like you have in the past.
3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as it fails. You can simply do this by clicking the square icon on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up and provide the link to the LogFile.PML file as well as your CBS.log Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or WeTransfer.

in addition - ive found another problem, but will stick together i gues: xbox app and Microsoft Store are also not updating anymore.
not seen this until i try to update microsoft flight simulator. this worked before the last world update this year

The Xbox App and Microsoft Store are separate to Windows Update. You can usually fix those issues by opening a Powershell window and then entering the following command(s):

Reinstall Microsoft Store:

Rich (BB code):

Get-AppXPackage *WindowsStore* -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

Reinstall Xbox App:

Both commands runnuning successfull, still got the same errors while trying to install some apps or updates:

Seems like a permission problem on component services COM+ and/or DCOM

some more information about the error message in windowsupdate.log found:

Seems to be at least one certificate Problem on target URL https://sls.update.microsoft.com/
I was able to extract that certificate and importetd this under intermidiate Authorities. After a reboot, i could search for windwos updates again, but no update was installed for x hours. (three days ago)

After getting out of standby mode today, my pc wants a reboot after installing new Updates!

so i did....

Now i can see updates again in Windows Update Dialog - but mostly all get stuck on "Downloading .... 6%" - and im getting new/other Errors in Windows Update Logs....

Frustrating, but i will continue to search around. You want a new CBS Log maybe?

So, i would ssuggest, to close this thread. ill purge my disks and reinstall Windows (dagain) as the problem always comes back again after weeks of working - month of not working appear. Maybe its just EDV (Ende der Vernunft) the German says
