Hey everyone,

i hope you all did enjoy Christmas and youre ready to start into the new year soon.

Unfortunately i have some issues with my Windows Updates. For several weeks i was not able to install some specific Updates, so the Windows Updater wanted me to install them on every reboot. My attempts to fix this Problem (Windows auti-fix programms and stuff) caused my System to dont even search for updates any longer. if i click on "search for new updates" it gives me the Error above. I tried to run "sfc /scannow" in the command line (opend as admin) but it didnt worked... meaning it didnt even start.

I found your SFCFix Tool and did run it. The Log-File is attached.

Sry if there are some mistakes in my scentences. Im not a native English speaker.

Thanks for your time, i hope you can help me

cheers

Hello and welcome to the forums :)

I am afraid I may have some bad news for you, the amount of corruptions that were detected by The System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) where quite a large number. It looks like most of the hive was missing. This is not normally a good sign and can often cause a lot of other issues down the track.

The first thing to check is to see if this a result from failing hardware.

Please follow the steps here for SeaTools HDD Diagnostics. Run a Long test and a Short test, then report back the results to this thread.

chkdsk /f scan

Warning:: This fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

Warning:: Before doing anything it is a good idea to back up any data/files that are important to you, in case your hard drive is dying. Please see Here

  1. Right click on the Start button and select Run as administrator
  2. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    chkdsk /f

  3. Reboot
  4. Download ListChkdskResult.exe (by SleepyDude) from Here
  5. Double click on it to run it. It will take a few seconds to scan, then it will open a Notepad window with the log. Copy and paste the contents of this into your next post please!

Please follow the instructions for MemTest86+, for atleast 10 passes. Let me know the results.

Thanks for the quick answer (great!)

Ive done some things so far.

But first of all my suggestion:
I belivie (reading your post did enforce my suggest) my external HDD caused the damage to my OS. I got several BlueScreens over quit some time. Im sure my external HDD is responsible for this. Ive now cut of the External HDD and will buy a new one next week. I have no Bluesceens anymore. The question is, if there is a way to repair the caused Damage or if its needed to reinstall Win7.

I did run the Seagate test on my SSD were Win7 is installed. Nothing suspect found. Same with chkdsk (logfile attached).
I found some trouble on my second HDD (no external) though. but i cant post the result of the Seagate Test cause i dont know where the LOGs are placed. \chkdsk D: (for the HDD) did start but then my computer crashed. (Nothing happends anymore... couldnt move mouse or type etc.) I think i will replace this HDD in time as well. The HDD is a bit older and is ready for change .

I will do the Memory Test next but i think main Problem was my external HDD.

What can i do to repair the System? Or is it easier to instal new OS (dont want to if not necessary)?

Thanks so far.

Hello again,

What can i do to repair the System? Or is it easier to instal new OS (dont want to if not necessary)?

When the registry hive (The COMPONENTS hive) was this badly damaged then the best thing to do is a Fresh install of Windows. You can try a repair install, but most likely a fresh install is required.
