I have a computer running Windows Server 2022 21H2, I was trying to update it via windows update but it is repeatedly failing with error 0x80073701. Then I tried to install the update KB5048654 manually and still the same error.

I have tried the following:
  1. sfc /scannow and there are no errors.
  2. Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and there are no errors.
but when I try the update file, I can see in CBS.log the error [ERROR_SXS_ASSEMBLY_MISSING] for Microsoft-Windows-msmq-powershell-Opt-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.20348.1.ead1ea679c2b1f0059f5ecfcb3af073b

Please support to fix the problem. Logs are attached.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Upload your COMPONENTS hive.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

There's no need to run the DISM / SFC commands when the update failed, just post the latest CBS logs to look at the latest error. It seems we'll need to replace 60+ components so it may take some time create the next fix.
