Hello,

When trying to install the latest Windows Updates, they fail and I receive several errors.

I tried the following steps:
- I followed the instructions inside How to check your COMPONENTS registry hive for corruption and also How to repair corrupt or dirty registry hive files - 0x800703f1 - ERROR_BADDB / error 0xc000014c .
It first seemed there was a sequence number issue and it came from the DRIVER file. I used the tools provided in the threads linked above to fix and replace the DRIVER file.
Unfortunately this did not fix my issue.

- I tried downloading the updates seperately and install them, but this did not fix.

- I ran Windows troubleshooter for Windows Updates but it did not find anything

- I made more room on disk (just in case)

- Downloaded and ran SFCFix, but after the initial scan, it seems to get stuck on 82.2% (see screenshot below, it's been on exactly that percentage for over 45 minutes).

- Rebooted the system (a few times)

This is not really my territory of expertise and after following the instructions I am still stuck.
I attached the requested files in this thread. If there is anything else I can provide please let me know.
Any help is very much appreciated!

Hi @Freekill313,

Welcome to Sysnative Forums!

If you haven't already, please review the posting instructions here, and attach the requested log files. Without log files, our helpers will not be able to assist, and this will slow down fixing your machine.

If logs have been already been provided, our team of volunteers will analyse the provided log files to build a fix for your system. Please be aware that this may take several days from your initial post, due to the high volume of threads that we receive.

Hello, I don't mean to be rude but I just wanted to ask if I'm not being skipped or forgotten as I see other topics of the same age being handled and solved.
Thanks again in advance!

No rush btw, I am just checking that I'm not forgotten :)

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Upload the setupapi.dev.log file
  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\INF folder.
  • Right-click on the file setupapi.dev.log and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
  • Click on the Yes button here.

  • Attach the file setupapi.dev.zip in your next reply.

Hi @Maxstar , I have run the SFCFix, see the log in attachment.
Afterwards I attempted the updates again but after the required restart for the updates I got the message: "We couldn’t complete the updates. Undoing changes. Don’t turn off your computer."

I've attached the new requested logs with this comment.

hi @Maxstar at first glance it seems the updates are not failing, which is already good.
But unfortunatly at this point, after the restart for the update it keeps saying "Working on updates - 100% complete - Don't turn off your computer".

It's been circling at 100% for some time now (15min+), should I continue to wait?

Yes please wait, when a cleanup task is set during the updateprocesss it may take some time to complete. I've seen situations where it took more than an hour to complete.

@Maxstar thank you very much, the server booted and is completely up to date.
I cannot thank you enough for this.

Is there any way you want (and of course have the time) to tell me what the issue was? I'm always eager to learn.
If so, you can also do it in dutch ^^.

Hi,

You're welcome. Glad to hear the issue has been resolved... (y)

In this case the DRIVERS hive was corrupt as you already figured out, and the remaining issues had to do with missing driver packages which I have replaced with known good copies from a VM.

You're welcome and glad I could help to resolve this issue...

Groeten van een noorderbuur... ;)
