I've got a Windows Server 2016 Standard that I can not get to patch. This server will successfully download the patches, but whenever it is rebooted it always rolls back the updates. I have uploaded the CBS.zip and componentsScanner.txt file to this thread. I have tried everything I know how to do at this point, seems to be an odd issue.

Hi @BiZuMs,

Welcome to Sysnative Forums!

If you haven't already, please review the posting instructions here, and attach the requested log files. Without log files, our helpers will not be able to assist, and this will slow down fixing your machine.

If logs have been already been provided, our team of volunteers will analyse the provided log files to build a fix for your system. Please be aware that this may take several days from your initial post, due to the high volume of threads that we receive.

Hello,

Attach the file C:\Windows\INF\setupapi.dev.log to your next reply.

Step 1:
Warning: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Do not run this script on another machine.

Download the attachment and extract it.
Open the extracted folder, double-click the file regfix.reg.
When prompted allow to change the registry settings.
Report the result.

Step 2:
Restart the machine.
Check windows Update again and report the result.
If it fails attach the files C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\cbs.log and C:\Windows\INF\setupapi.dev.log to your next reply.

Registry keys have been applied. Server should reboot within the next 1-2 days and I will take a peak at the Windows Update after this.

Server was rebooted. I checked Windows update and it does look like it successfully downloaded the updates. This server did do this last time so I will try and reboot it later to see what the result is.

I see this after I gave the server a reboot and attempted to install updates. I also re-attached the CBS.log file and the setupapi.dev.log file to this just in case you need it again!

Export registry
  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type regedit.
  2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

  4. Once selected, click File > Export....
  5. Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*)
  6. Name this file Services (with no file extension) and save it to your desktop.
Right click on the Services file on your Desktop and select Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder.
Upload the Services.zip file to a file sharing service such as OneDrive, DropBox, SendSpace, etc. and include the link with your reply.

Let me know if this works!
