[SOLVED] Windows Server 2016 Standard - issue installing 2024-08 Cumulative update

Hello all,

As the title states, having an issue installing the latest cumulative update on Windows Server 2016. Installs fine, and then doesn't finish the install correctly during/after reboot. Attached are the logs and ComponentsScanner.txt file. Thanks for any help that you can provide!

Posting here just in case anyone else comes looking for an answer. Turns out WU didn't have enough resources to complete installing this update due to this being an Exchange server. Fix was this: put Exchange into maintenance mode, stop/disable IIS Admin and Web Publishing services, set both to disabled, run an iisreset /stop, install the update and reboot, re-enable IIS Admin and Web Publishing services, reboot again, take Exchange out of maintenance mode. Something about IIS taking up too much resources on startup was causing the update to fail.

Thanks for sharing the solution in this case, but could you please share the specifications of this server: RAM / CPU etc...

2x Windows Server 2016 Standard w/ Exchange 2016 in a DAG. Servers have 6 vCPUs and 32GB of RAM. Backend storage is 10GB link to 2x HPE SANs. 20x DBs (active/passive) between the 2x servers in the DAG. Both servers had the above issue until I disabled those services and then ran the updates. Happy to provide any other specs as needed.
