Windows Server 2016 - KB5044293 Failing

Hello! I need some assistance with this KB failing to update. I'm getting error code 0x80073701. DISM and SFC commands are both clean and return no errors. I inherited this server from another MSP who had NinjaRMM and MBAM installed, and I'm unable to install MBAM endpoint on it, so I'm not sure if this is preventing or breaking installation of this KB. The MABM support tool fails to launch on it. Any ideas?

Hi @Kevin_Hulett_ASI,

Welcome to Sysnative Forums!

If you haven't already, please review the posting instructions here, and attach the requested log files. Without log files, our helpers will not be able to assist, and this will slow down fixing your machine.

If logs have been already been provided, our team of volunteers will analyse the provided log files to build a fix for your system. Please be aware that this may take several days from your initial post, due to the high volume of threads that we receive.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Upload a copy of the CBS folder
  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\Logs folder.
  • Right-click on the CBS folder and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
  • Click on the Yes button here.

  • Attach the file CBS.zip to your next reply. If the file is too large to attach, upload the CBS.zip file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Hi,

Follow these instructions to remove an update.
  • Open the Start menu of Windows and type the command CMD
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  • When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, then press enter.
Code:
wusa /uninstall /KB:4467691
  • Let me know if it says it was successful or you get the message: The update KB4467691 is not installed on this computer.

I ran the command, the KB uninstalled successfully and prompted for reboot. Upon reboot, remote desktop connections no longer work with the below error presented. I do have local access to the machine and was able to login locally without issue.

Re-checked for Windows updates, found KB5044293 and it successfully installed with a successful reboot. Thank you @Maxstar! I will have to double-check the remote desktop issue on Monday. Luckily the server is not currently in production.

Hi,

You're welcome. Glad to hear the update installed successfully this time. But let me know if there are still RDP issues.
