Hi, I have a problem with windows explorer crashing, I just came from another thread on this site. It is called windows update. I recently reinstalled my operating system and was finally able to load my graphics driver. This was after reducing my graphics card from Nvidia GTX960 to GT740. However I am still experiencing crashes and freeze ups when starting my system.

ps I've did all the hardware tests and passed them all. Do you really want me to do them over again ?

Hi John, I reviewed your BSOD and Updates threads. as well as here. Sounds more likely as a hardware issue versus software. Since you changed video cards and are getting crashes, it probably isn't a graphics issue. However, when changing display drivers, I recommend using DDU, Display Driver Uninstaller, to clean out old loose ends. Download Display Driver Uninstaller - MajorGeeks It should be run in safe mode.

Swap out your power supply and see if there is any difference.

Closely examine the electrolytic capacitors for any crowning, bulging, or any discoloration on or around the capacitors. How to check your desktop computer for failed capacitors

The hardware forum has a few threads on crashes, which you may find similar symptoms to what you are experiencing. Pay close attention to any commentaries by Digerati. Bill has an extensive background on hardware stuff.

I hope I'm wrong about this being a hardware issue but the age of the mobo caught my attention. I just had a 13 year old go on me and symptoms were similar.

Here is the list of hardware.
I have Windows 7 Ultimate installed since February.
Desktop built by myself.
System Originality had Win XP Pro.

CPU is Intel Xeon X5472 3.00GHz @ 2962 GHz, 4 cores, 4 logical processors about 8mos old.
Video Card is Nvidia Geforce GT740 about 8mos old.
Motherboard is ASRock Penryn1600SLI-110db is about 11 years old.
Power Supply is Corsair HX620 about 5 years old.
I haven't seen any bulging capacitors, that doesn't mean there aren't any, I will inspect the board more and get back with you. I have done a complete uninstall of my video card drivers before installation.

There are no bulging capacitors on the motherboard, they are the polymer-based electrolyte ones. I have taken two sticks of memory out with no difference.

I am so thrilled, after testing each memory slot, I found that my first chip was bad. It being a Kingston with life time warranty, I did not expect it would be bad, I can send it back for a new one. I also checked each slot, which means it isn't my motherboard, at least not yet, I am so relieved. I did not have the money for a new motherboard and all that would entail. My computer is running great, quick and responsive. Yeah !!!!

I guess I spoke too soon, everything has come back today. I suppose my motherboard is going bad. Thanks all of you for your patience and help. I suppose I will start looking for some computer equipment, later John.
