I am reposting out of desperation as the person helping me has gone completely unresponsive. After following all instructions, I've gotten zero responses now for over two weeks. So I am starting over and I hope that's okay.
I can't use Windows update. Period. All of my info is in the following thread:

https://www.sysnative.com/forums/windows-update/6523-windows-update-error-80070002-a.html#post52690

Could someone else please take this over and actually help me find a solution? :banghead:

Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from System Update Readiness Tool fixes Windows Update errors in Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2008
(you'll need to look in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft Download Center)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to reply.

That's as normal a report as we ever get from a machine with IE10 installed :)

I'll have to review the other thread later, after work :( and see what I can dredge out of it - it may however be a good idea to run another SFC /SCANOOW and post the new CBS.log file so I can see the current situation.

Thanks for your help so far. I've run the SFC /SCANNOW command as admin and without and keep getting "windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation."

OK - post the CBS.log file anyhow, as it may tell us the cause.

You're welcome - sorry the outcome wasn't less destructive.

Good luck.
