Windows corruptions after uninstalling preview cumulative update build

Hey all,

Experiencing some weird issues after first installing a Windows Update and then uninstalling. Outlined some of the issue previously in this thread:
Critical Error - Your Start menu isn't working. (likely Windows Update related)

I'm currently getting a pop-up that appears when shutting down / restarting, among a few other game crashes:

The instruction at 0x00007FFB6AFE3FAA referenced memory at 0x0000000000000024. The memory could not be written.
Click on OK to terminate the program

Hi Will,

The CBS logs looking good, I don't see any file corruptions or any other update issue. But which executable or DLL-name do you see in the dialog window when the memory error appears?

So - with the cumulative preview installed, I don't get the error when restarting/signing out, but I do get other driver issues (maybe a compatibility issue with the latest preview build and Riot Vanguard driver).

When uninstalling the update before, I got the startup critical errors, and also the error when restarting or signing out, but no visible executable or DLL that I could see. (It also flashes very quickly).

I'll try uninstalling the update again and seeing if it gives me the same errors - were there any issues in the original CBS log, or did that also look clean? If no luck, I don't have much on this PC, so I might just do a full reinstall.

1. Does this problem reflect the same issue with just an RunTimebroker.exe issue? > Redirecting
2. What is the result when you run mdsched.exe from the command line?
3. Yes, all the CBS logs are looking good.

After uninstalling the cumulative update, I can see it's "explorer.exe" (the critical start menu issue has reappeared).

1. Not exactly, although similar - my issue is for explorer.exe and only occurs when signing out or restarting (rest of the screen is black at that point in time).
2. Where can I view the results? The machine restarted, but I didn't see anything.

Alright - I’ve done a full reinstall via the Control Panel setting (Cloud reinstall, not a full USB wipe), and the explorer.exe issue is persisting.

I’ll try a full wipe and USB reinstall tomorrow, but looking more likely to be a hardware issue.

I can test the RAM with memtest and other tools - any suggestions on how I can validate the issue isn’t my graphics card?

I've done a full wipe + reinstall from USB and things seem a little better. Was also having some issues with the monitor not displaying output when in the MSI settings / loading, but a CMOS reset seems to have resolved that.

If the error returns I'll do some more hardware checks, but everything with PassMarks BurnInTest was clear so far.
