I have tried to upgrade 8 to 8.1 , but it is suggested that I should to complete some important updates before jumping to 8.1 While on the update process, Win 8 keeps providing error code 0x800703f1. I have googled a lot and found that this situation is linked to a corruption of the configuration registry database. Please, attached to this message is a copy of the CBS.log. So, here is my question: how to overcome this problem and recover a clean registry,in order to complete win 8 updates and jump to win 8.1 ? Please, your help is of great interest for me. Thanks in advance. Regards Jealnfoot Attachments CBS.log 78.4 KB · Views: 28

Can you please run SFC again (it will fail again) and upload the CBS log again? What I am looking for is at what point it fails at. Thanks Alex

[HRESULT = 0x800703f1 - ERROR_BADDB] 2014-09-17 22:55:32, Info CBS Failed to load component store [HRESULT = 0x800703f1 - ERROR_BADDB] This is the point that is failing. What I would like to do is to take a look at the COMPONENTS hive. SFCFix Collect COMPONENTS Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. Download SFCFixScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFixScript.txt - do not rename it. On your Desktop, you should now see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it. SFCFix will now begin to upload your CBS logfiles to our server. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text. If all goes well, you should see that your logfiles have now been added to your thread.

Looking at the COMPONENTS hive it can not be loaded. I have had a look over the values set on the hive to try and work out what would be stopping it from opening but did not have any luck. When I get some free time I can have another look, but cases like this are not fixed normally. This sort of corruption normally results in a fresh reinstall of Windows. What I recommend from here is that you back up all your important files, in case this is the path that we need to go down. Alex
