Windows 8 Release Preview will be available today

Gone are the days when Microsoft’s deadlines were often slipped. Over the past year, Microsoft is hard at work on their next version of Windows and releasing consecutive previews to deliver the best Windows PC experience ever.

The Release Preview of Windows 8 is the next major release that was scheduled to first week of June 2012. But a badly timed blog post on the Windows Hardware and Driver Developer blog has revealed that Microsoft is releasing Windows 8 Release Preview today i.e. May 31, 2012.
The blog post (taken down for now) was authored by Chuck Chan, Corporate Vice President on the Windows Development team. But some sources have confirmed that it’s true and legit.

Windows 8 Release Preview is here a day early

Ladies and gentlemen, start your downloads!

Windows 8 "Release Preview" is out now. Originally planned for the first week of June, it looks like Microsoft couldn't wait that long, and so has shipped the software a day early.

The Release Preview is the third in Microsoft's trio of Windows 8 pre-releases. The first was the Developer Preview, back in September of last year. Instead of following up with a more traditional "beta" release, Redmond branded the next version, launched in late February, the "Consumer Preview." This final version would more traditionally be known as a Release Candidate.

The operating system is now almost complete. Compared to the Consumer Preview, the new version will include integrated Adobe Flash, greater customization of the Start screen, improved multimonitor usability, and a broadly improved fit and finish. What it won't include is the new theme that has been announced, so visual inconsistency between the desktop parts and the Metro parts will remain an issue.

New and updated Microsoft Windows 8 apps launched

With today's launch of the Windows 8 Release Preview, Microsoft has also released some new and improved versions of its various first party Windows 8 Metro apps via the Windows Store.
One of the new apps is called Fresh Paint, a new drawing and painting tool.
