A friend came to me to help with computer problems and I found that his Windows 8.1 (not Pro) install had not applied Windows Updates since 2017 (I think)

Ran sfc /scannow which found corrupt files.

Ran Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and got Error: 0x80240021

The computer has 6Gb of RAM and 366Gb of free space on the system drive.

I found your SFCFix program and ran it as directed. Please find the resulting CBS.zip HERE.

Thanks in advance for any effort in helping me solve my friends problem.

Good start. Perform a new scan with SFC:

SFC Scan
  1. Right-click the Start button and select Command Prompt (administrator).
  2. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each.

    Code:
    sfc /scannow
Wait for this to finish before you continue

    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  3. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.
Note: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Filedropper or One Drive or WeTransfer and just provide the download link.

Reboot the machine.
Perform a new scan with SFC as in message #4.

It looks like SFC did not find any problems.
Check Windows Update and report the result.

It took several rounds of update-restart but all were applied successfully. Looks like we have a winner!

Thank you so much from my friend and me!

Great. Glad we could help. I will mark this thread as solved.

Take care.
