Dear forum members,

Since the windows 8 to windows 8.1 update, I keep getting the "scripted diagnostics native host has stopped working" error.

I ran the sfc /scannow but it gave me following message:
"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log"

Anyone any idea how to fix this?

Thanks!

The upload of the CBS.log fails, but here are some of the messages in the log:

Hi,

Can you please upload your full CBS folder to your next post?

Export CBS folder

  1. Browse to the folder C:\Windows\Logs
  2. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  3. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  4. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  5. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
  6. Attach this new file to your next post.

Hi Stephen, thanks for your answer already, I attached the zipped CBS folder.

I really hope this gives a clue what's going on ...

Hello again,

Let's get some of these corruptions sorted out and see where we go from there.

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue (approximately 15 minutes)

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

Hello Kristof, and welcome to Sysnative!

Something went wrong (notice that there's nothing much going on in that logfile) but I don't think it's anything you did wrong. I've seen this problem a couple of times before, and whilst I work on a permanent fix, can you please try the instructions once again, exactly the same as before. As I said, I don't think it's anything you did wrong, just a random error that seems to occur only sporadically, and which I will try to permanently fix as soon as possible. If it still doesn't work, I'll let you know then what to do next.

Hi, I did exactly the same again (even re-downloading) but it returned the same result :(

Is there anything I should take into account or any service I should stop/start before executing the command?

I'm not sure why the script is failing. Let's try something.

Re-download a copy of SFCFix.exe and then script from this location: https://www.sysnative.com/teknovenus/yyyolus/SFCFix.zip

Once you've re-downloaded and saved the script and exe to your desktop, run the attached batch file. Save it to your desktop and double click it to run it. It will then launch SFCFix automatically.

Hi,

For some reason the batch file got corrupted when uploading. I will investigate why that happened - thanks for the heads up.

Not to worry though, that was just to ensure SFCFix launched fine, which it did this time. It seems one file did not copy correctly:

Code:
Failed to copy file C:\Users\Kristof\AppData\Local\niemiro\Archive\amd64_microsoft-windows-font-truetype-mingliu_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.16384_none_abd8c9dc5bf46112\mingliu.ttc to C:\WINDOWS\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-font-truetype-mingliu_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.16384_none_abd8c9dc5bf46112\mingliu.ttc with error code 0x4C8.

I'm not sure why though... I'll ask another expert on why. Re-run an SFC scan though:

SFC Scan

  1. Press the Windows Key on your keyboard and X to open up the Power User Tasks Menu
  2. Click (or tap) Command Prompt (admin)
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue (approximately 15 minutes)

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Hi,

Let's try this:

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix_18_4_14.zip, and save this to your Desktop.

Hi,

The SFCFix.txt does not contain a lot (I ran it multiple times with the same result):

SFCFix version 2.2.1.0 by niemiro.
Start time: 2014-04-19 20:16:52.144
Using .zip script file at C:\Users\Kristof\Desktop\SFCFix_18_4_14.zip

Successfully processed all directives.
SFCFix version 2.2.1.0 by niemiro has completed.
Currently storing 2 datablocks.
Finish time: 2014-04-19 20:16:52.231
----------------------EOF-----------------------

The CBS.txt file is attached in zipped format.

Thanks,

Kristof
