Windows 8.1 problem haunting me since 2016/2017

I really don't know how to start this off....but basically, my Windows is INCREDIBLY damaged.

I have NOT been able to update since around 2016/2017
and I've tried so many times to fix it that I've given up so I forgot the error code when trying to update, but I'll make sure to post it here tomorrow if needed.

Since last week my windows has been taking a LOT more than usual time to start up, and at sudden points, something incredibly strange happens: I'm able to use the window I'm currently on (browser), but any time I click on another app, I cannot close it. As soon as that happens, I know that my pc session is basically over. From that point on, everything stops working, it seems like windows works fine but I'm unable to click on windows.exe , open up task manager, or press the windows button, the browser starts hanging around, and I have to restart it. 2 days ago this happened right after turning on my PC - 3 times in a row... and the 4th time I've tried to turn it on, the BIOS screen stayed on "analysis and restoring C unit.. 0%..1%" etc. until it turned on again
This event scared me so much that I was worried that my PC would just stop working forever, it was a problem that's been haunting me FOREVER, and I'm surprised my PC is still working "decently"... but the effects are very noticeable

So let's get this started, my PC's language is ITALIAN, but I hope it won't be a problem.

SFC /scannow gives me "Protezione risorse di Windows: impossibile eseguire l'operazione richiesta"
which translates to Windows Resource Protection: impossible to execute the requested operation

DISM gives me: Errore 1009 Database del Registro di sistema danneggiato. and log fille is C:\Windows\Logs\Dism\dism.log which translates to: System registry database is damaged.

CBS.rar file is uploaded, I've taken a look and even though I'm not an expert, I've noticed something that's probably causing this
( Failed to load the COMPONENTS hive from 'C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS' into registry key 'HKLM\COMPONENTS'. [HRESULT = 0x800703f1 - ERROR_BADDB] )
I've tried to load the components file myself, and it did confirm it was damaged.

I've tried upgrading to Windows 10, and it gives me an error (I might miss a zero here and there but...) 0x80070001 2000F error in safe_os in phase migrate_data , something along those lines.

This has been going on for years, and every time I've been looking for a fix, I've found many "supposed fixes" which just...didn't work, and each time I gave up, slowly forgetting about the issue, until something happened which made me worried enough to check back on it again, only to give up on it a few hours later

I don't know if posting here will help me out, I'm so surprised by how passionate some of you are... it's really hard to believe that some of you have been so kind to help people out here for years! :)

Hello and welcome to Sysnative! Thank you very much for your kind words.

Let's first ensure that there are no bad sectors on your drive:

GSmartControl
Follow the instructions below to check your SMART status with GSmartControl:

  • Download the portable version of GSmartControl and save it on your Desktop;
  • Extract the zip file to your Desktop. Open the folder gsmartcontrol-1.1.3-win64 which should be located on your Desktop and double-click gsmartcontrol.exe to launch the program.
  • Identify your drive in the list (if recognized by the tool), and hover your mouse over it.
  • You should see something called: SMART status. It will either read: Enabled, in which case you should do the following:
  • Double-click on it to bring up its window (usually you'll find your drive by its size or its brand name);
  • Go to the Self-Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete);
  • Once the test is over, the results will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Please copy and paste these results in your next reply or take a screenshot;
  • Also, go in the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply;
  • Please note: If the SMART Status reads: Unsupported, stop and let me know.

Please for now just take a screenshot of the Attributes tab.

Thank you.

Hey, thanks for your reply!
8 drives show up, do I have to check each one?

Okay, running it and will let you know as soon as it's completed.
I have 3 hard drives, all together they're 16 TB and the biggest drive would require a 12 hour test so I hope that won't be needed lol

You could have just let me know if there was anything pink or red in the Attributes section and left the test for later, but okay. Leave it running now :-)

sorry, I went straight to the test... I've checked attributes and there's nothing in pink/red (for the system drive)

heading off to bed now, but test for system drive ran "without errors"
is lifetime hours the total hours that the hard drive has been active for? because if so, my system hard drive has been active for exactly 22223 hours. should've signed up on this website 1 hour earlier...maybe something magical would have happened :D

see you tomorrow and let me know what to do next

Okay, good night. When able, please do the following:

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service. Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace and then just provide the link in your reply.

COMPONENTS.rar (11.17MB) - SendSpace.com
here's the file, password is in PM

this isn't the only components file I have in config though, this is the biggest one weighing 60,672 KB (last modified 25/10/2015), there's another COMPONENTS.iobit from 27/08/2017 weighing 41.216 KB and another componentss from 27/08/2017 weighing 62.208 KB

let me know if those are also going to be needed

This does not contain any personal information, so please do not password protect the files as the assistance has to be provided via forums and not via PM. If there was anything personal in them, I would not have asked to provide the files publicly.

Can I get a screenshot of your C:\Windows\System32\config folder?

mini update: around 10 mins ago, the issue popped up again, right while i was trying to activate my headphones audio...not sure if that's any useful to you but wanted to mention it.
I've taken a look at the config folder and I see lots of .iobit and .iodefrag files, I don't think they should be there but I'm not going to delete them unless you tell me to, I'm quite sure that they came from some IOBit program, maybe that might have messed up my registry up? Let me know what to do next :) :) :) <3

IOBit has backed the files up and defragged them very likely, that's why you can see the files. Unfortunately, the hive you've provided is too damaged to be loaded. Can I please get the COMPONENTS.iobit and COMPONENTSS files?

Attempting the repair install. Will update when completed.
I posted this around 1 hour ago but just noticed I didn't post the reply for some reason.

I've tried repairing my install but the purple window got stuck on "Verifying if the system is ready for the installation"
"The operation will require a few minutes"
[loading] Wait...

I've tried it the first time and it was stuck there, turned it off and started it again at 3:37 PM my time, it's 4:05 PM rn and it's still stuck there

1 hour passed and still in the "waiting" phase, I can use the pc just fine, but anytime I check the progress it's still "waiting", let me know if I can check the logs of this "attempted repair install" to see what's making it not work :) <3
