Hi everyone,

So my system has been stuttering, clicking, popping etc for the past week. It gets really bad sometimes, specially if I have headphones on. Music, videos, and virtually every program stutters, clicks or pops. Some additional Info: My computer was sent for repair to HP, who installed a new motherboard and CPU.
SO this is what I have done so far, but now I'm stuck. I would truly appreciate some help. Thank you very much.

-So I ran the command prompt sfc/scannow.
-Then I got the following message : Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log%WinDir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log.
-Then I ran a second command prompt: findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"
-Then I checked the log and it has this entries on it

-I used the guide you guys have created here and ran the SFCfix tool and was able to fix the corrupt files.
-I followed the instructions on your guide and after running the sfc/scannow on the command propt twice more, I received no more corrupted file messages. HOWEVER. My computer is still stuttering. When I turn on anything, let's say a music program, I still hear the clipping and stuttering. Same thing happens when I run anything else. Also my computer looks like it's always refreshing or something, because I notice when it stutters it does the same thing as when you right-click and select "refresh" Can you guys help me out here. THank you very much.

Stephen(Tekno Venus) asked me to download and run LatencyMo. Here are the results.

Thanks for all the help.

Also, a quick question. Could this be a result of faulty hardware? HP recently replace the motherboard and CPU. Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Could you please also run Windows SDK setup and select to install "Windows Performance Toolkit"? Once it's installed run the following command from elevated (Run As Administrator) command prompt (if the command asks you to modify the registry, please do that, reboot your computer and re-run the command):

Code:
xperf -on PROC_THREAD+LOADER+PROFILE+INTERRUPT+DPC+DRIVERS -stackwalk Profile -BufferSize 1024 -MinBuffers 256 -MaxBuffers 256 -MaxFile 256 -FileMode Circular

Now, play some audio and do other activities until you experience the issues you mentioned. Once you do, run the following command to stop the logging:

Code:
xperf -stop -d C:\CPU.etl

Compress C:\CPU.etl log file and attach it here.

Thanks.

Ok. I'm not sure if I did this right, but here's the CPU file. I downloaded the toolkit, used the command promp (as Admin) copy and pasted the codes and I found the CPU etl file a folder.

By the way, Windows 8.1 pro 64 bit (x64).

Hi,

Most DPCs are related to USBPORT.SYS driver. Looking into the stack, we can BALANCE.SYS driver:

Balance.sys.jpg

I guess this driver is related to Propellerheads Balance device you have, is that right? If it is so, could you please do the following:
In addition, could you please also download and run Sysnative jcgriff2 BSOD File Collection app? Attach the log file it generated here, so we could have more information about your system.

Hi,

In addition to Tomas' great advice, try connecting the Balance device to a USB 2.0 port instead of a USB 3.0 port. Some users have reported issues with the device when it is plugged into a USB 3 port. USB 3.0 ports are normally signified by being blue and having SS written near them.

Ok, so I have attached the report created by the BSOD file. Again, I want to thank you guys for help me out here.

I uninstalled and re-installed the Balance Driver, I'm about to test it out.

I will also use different USB ports and see if that makes a difference.

I tried changing the USB port, and it helped, but I still getting some clicks/pops/stutters (a little bit less frequent, but they are still there). I also updated the driver, though it was already updated. But now I'm starting to see that Balance may have something to do with it, but I think there may be other things I'm assuming. I downloaded the DPC Latency checker I see that its the latency is running in the yellow. I also notice when the are small spikes, that's when it clicks/pops etc. I did a Printscreen of the DPC lantency checker running, with balance connected to the PC, I was also listening to an MP3 player app.

Is there anything else you guys recommend?

I've joined this forum so I can hopefully enlighten a lot of Win8.1 "Standard" users who have suffered with the DPC Latency issues like I have for so long and tried everything from disabling/re-enabling/re-installing/updating any and every device driver in Device Manager without success! I'm running an ASUS Q500A i7 with 16GB of RAM and a Crucial M500 960GB SSD and was still haviing the pops and bangs associated with audio and video playback - until today!!

Microsoft have finally added to their Knowledge Base a roll-up update which includes a fix for latency issues (KB2911106) it includes KB2910642 which is itended as a fix for Windows Media Player but it has all but resolved my issues when trying to listen to 192/24 & 96/24 HD audio via Mediamonkey and Foobar2000 which were previously almost unlistenable.

Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 update rollup: January 2014

I hope this helps out anyone who thought that there was no foreseeable light at the end of the tunnel on this one from Microsoft!!
