Isolated 1 PC and 1 Laptop on one switch and they are wired only.
One shows 3 Computer names no longer on LAN for months. The other shows 2 Computers not on LAN anymore. Wireless is off on all systems.
Norton turned off.

What has been done so far:

Wireless adapter disabled on both.
Enable NetBios over TCP/IP on both computers confirmed.

(At Command Prompt)ipconfig:

/release Release the IPv4 address for the specified adapter.
/renew6 Renew the IPv6 address for the specified adapter.

/flushdns Purges the DNS Resolver cache.
/registerdns Refreshes all DHCP leases and re-registers DNS names
/displaydns Display the contents of the DNS Resolver Cache.

/showclassid Displays all the dhcp class IDs allowed for adapter.

(***Computer names are not there on either computers)

(At Command Prompt)
netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log
netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

All cleared. Hard reset all hardware.

Still see unwanted computers names still after reboot on wired only. Why? Hmmmm..:banghead:

..btw, hi all again!

I am not certain I understand your setup.

You say "Windows 7 network" - what do you mean by that? Do you mean Homegroup? How are IP addresses assigned? Have you checked your DNS/DHCP server/router for old records for the old names? If any, delete them.

Is sharing setup on any of these computers? Were any drives on the disconnected computer mapped on the still connected computers?

What do you mean by "hard reset all hardware"?

Instead of just rebooting your computers, you need to do a "cold" reboot. That is, you need to power down and unplug these computers from the wall (remove the battery from the notebook too) to remove any standby voltages that may be keeping settings alive. I would do this with your entire network. Wait 30+ seconds then start connecting power to the network devices, then computers and boot up to see what happens.

Yes, simple homegroup called workgroup. DHCP set on all equipment. Tested with 2 different routers, alone. Have gone and reset all sharing to none, on both computers.
Hard reset means, to me, total power off restart. will revise lingo to "cold" reboot (CR). All power sources removed/discounted.

btw..

Renamed computers names to match two of the names that I can't remove. They work and can RDP from both to ea. other.
I did a power on, complete restore to default setting on router, after shutting down pc's for cold restart for all. But both routers show the sames names I don't want.
So this rules out routers here, No? Before connecting to router (no wifi on it) wire only, I renamed the computers to names never used. Cold Reboot (CR) them, plug in to router.
I see new names and still three other names in the network workgroup. I see 5 pc's when only two exist on the lan.

Logged on to router, to see attached device list. See only three used ip address's assigned by the DHCP server of the router.

I see 5 pc's in my workgroup. removed current troubled laptop , replaced with another after cold reboot all. one extra pc name is gone, now down to 4 computers in the workgroup after cold reboot all equipment.
Just two unwanted names coming from desktop computer. Added back the troubled laptop, the unwanted name comes back, now have 6 computers in workgroup.

This is important because with a PC, even if turned off, there is still +5Vsb standby voltages applied across several points on the motherboard, including the network adapter whenever the PSU is still plugged into the wall (and "if" equipped, the master power switch on the back of the PSU is set to on - not all PSUs have these switches).

But both routers show the sames names I don't want.
They show this where? Under attached devices?

Okay.

"Added back" how? Did you pull the battery on this as suggested above?

You may have to delete this Homegroup and rebuild it with a new name.

FYI, still having issues. Will report soon. So far it's in the network type selections.
