Hello guys,
Since a couple of months ago I´ve been facing issues with my laptop...
I have a Samsung RC520 Windows 7 and I just cant install anything else or even try to access the
computer features ( like system tools ) and the operation crashes showing the message "has stopped working".
Therefore, I ran the SFC scan which got one error that couldn't be fixed ( I´m not even sure if there is correlation between both issues but just giving as many clues as possible). I´ve been checking pretty much everything since then, but just coudn´t figure it out and I think has to do with some dll screwed up.
I also tried to restore from the recover point but the last version also wasn´t enough to solve the problem.

btw I´ve been reading here about and already ran your .BAT file .

appreciate any help with this.

Hello and welcome to Sysnative Forums!

We might be able to get away without a full re-install. I will need some information.

Export CBS folder

  1. Click the Start button :startorb: then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
  8. Attach this new file to your next post.

Right then,

SURT has fixed a few things:

Code:
Summary:
Seconds executed: 4184
 Found 2 errors
 Fixed 2 errors
CBS Catalog Missing Total count: 2
Fixed: CBS Catalog Missing. Total count: 2
Fixed: CBS Paired File. Total count: 2

That's good. However, SURT was run back in December, and I want to cross check a few things in the CBS log. Can you run SURT once more please?

Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)

  1. Download the System Update Readiness Tool from Microsoft --> here <-- Please save the tool to a convenient location as it may be necessary to run it again.
  2. After the download has completed, double-click the file and wait while it initializes.
  3. Click Yes to begin installation. Please note it may take some time to complete and may appear to stall whilst installing. Don't worry, this is perfectly normal behaviour. Also note, whilst I say "installing", it's actually running the tool and can therefore be "installed" (run) repeatedly.

How long does it roughly takes ? it´s been 2 hours since I´ve started an seen to be stuck, I´m aware that it can takes a while but not sure if should take that long ...

SURT can take a long time. 2 hours is pushing it though.

Give it another hour. If it is still going in another hours time, cancel it and let me know. Upload the CBS folder anyway even if you cancel it.

Stephen

Well, I now can see why it took so long.

SURT has reported more errors this time, some that it cannot fix:

I do not know how to repair these yet, I am still undergoing training for those errors.

I will call in another expert to take a look for you.

Fair enough...You´ve done a lot for me already.
Of course would appreciate if you can bring in someone who can fix it for me...

Hello P222, welcome to Sysnative!

To fix this, we will need some more information:

Upload a file to Dropbox

Note: If you prefer, the same techniques can be applied to your Skydrive however these instructions may not necessarily work for Skydrive.

  1. If you haven't already created a Dropbox account, please do so Here
  2. Although this procedure can be done directly through the website, it is much easier to do so via the Windows client which can be downloaded from the Dropbox website:

    https://www.dropbox.com/install
  3. After you have downloaded and installed that, you should now see Dropbox in your Favourites box in Windows Explorer. This is the folder that will be synchronised with the Dropbox servers, anything that you wish to back up online can be put in here, but today we will be using it to transfer files.

    Favourites%20list.PNG

  4. To access your Dropbox folder, just click on the link in the top left hand corner of Windows Explorer (accessible from any location - Documents etc.). Alternatively, you can double click on the icon
    icon.jpg
found in your system tray (next to the time). If you are still having issues locating this folder, unless otherwise specified, it can be found under this location: C:\Users\{Your username}\Dropbox
  5. Copy all of the following files to the Public folder in your Dropbox:
    • C:\Windows\system32\config\components (it has no file extension)

  6. Select all files by pressing Ctrl+A then right-click and select Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder
  7. This will create a .zip
    zip_icon.png
    file in your Public folder.
  8. Right-click on this file and select
    icon.jpg
Copy Public Link then Paste (Ctrl+V) this link into your next post for me please

Tom
