Hi Sysnative Windows Update Team,

I was looking for solutions pretty much around the internet. Luckily I've stumbled on this website and hoping to find the solution that I'm looking for.

First of all when I was trying to apply the windows update it keeps failing and displaying the error code:0x800700c1, I've tried running sfc and dism to hopefully fix the issue but it didn't. I've also tried doing an inplace upgrade but it also keeps failing in the last step and displaying a popup message that states "Windows Update has failed".

Operating system is Windows 11 Home 64bit 23H2 Build 22631.3296.

The log files are attached.

Thank you very much for your support.

Hi @JillHan,

Welcome to Sysnative Forums!

If you haven't already, please review the posting instructions here, and attach the requested log files. Without log files, our helpers will not be able to assist, and this will slow down fixing your machine.

If logs have been already been provided, our team of volunteers will analyse the provided log files to build a fix for your system. Please be aware that this may take several days from your initial post, due to the high volume of threads that we receive.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Due to the precise nature of your corruption, you will receive help from a user named @MoZi. He's one of our senior trainees here who's in his final phrase of his studies and needs to gain some real world experience in specific areas of Windows Update. This means that he'll be assisting you, but that I will first need to double check and approve his fixes before he posts them to you. If anything this is a good thing for you because it means that you've got at least two of us watching over your thread, but it will unfortunately add a slight delay between each reply. I hope that you understand and can accept the need for us to train up new members in this way in order to carry on doing what we do here, however, if for any reason you object to this setup, I will happily take on your thread myself.

Thank you very much for your understanding. We'll be with you very shortly.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative!

Please upload your COMPONENTS hive.

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service. Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or WeTransfer and then just provide the link in your reply.

Hi MoZi,

I tracked the file that you stated but it's a bit different as the file is in small caps ("components") in C:\Windows\System32\Config.
I've managed to send it here I'm not sure if it's the correct thing.

Thank you.

Your log looks good now.
Please try to update again. If it fails please attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

I just want to ask if there's another forum here that could possibly help me out on my built-in realtek microphone that only picks up static?

If there is, would you mind guiding me there?

Thank you.
