Hi,

since upgrading from windows 8.1 to windows 10 a few months ago, I have had problems with my Acer laptop. It has become slow, unresponsive & prone to freezing. Apps are slow to open IF at all, Internet explorer gets very easily bogged down when multiple tabs are open.
Adobe reader will no longer open PDF documents I get an error message saying 'invalid value for registry'
I have also been getting DISM Error: 0x800f081f

These problems don't seem to be going away.
sfc/scannow checks I have performed have revealed I have corruptions, this took hours to perform.
I have run DISM command which also say I have corruptions but all my attempts to repair these so far have been unsuccessful.
DISM check health scans said 'the component store is repairable'.

I have copied the CBS folder this is attached for your perusal.
I have also run the sfc/fix tool BUT there still appears to be problems that were NOT able to be fixed.
I have copied the log file below for this:

No new update is available at this time.

Due to the nature of your corruptions, scan times have been extended by

Any assistance you can offer would be much appreciated. :thumbsup2:

Let's replace it and then check with DISM to make sure the problem is resolved.

Hi,

Thanks for your help so far!

My previous reply above contained the SFCFix file.

Attached to this reply is the CBS log you have requested.

In addition to the problem you are assisting me with........
I now seem to have another problem possibly caused by yet again a Windows 10 update.

I am unable to open Internet Explorer. The IE window tries to open but then closes. I am ONLY able to connect to the internet via Microsoft Edge.
Whilst troubleshooting the problem the following message was displayed:
Problem found: Windows could not automatically detect this network's Proxy settings.

My wi-fi connection seems okay. I have tried some quick fixes to rectify the problem like resetting Internet Explorer settings, checked proxy server settings, checked TCP/IP settings & disabled firewall & antivirus software. But still IE will NOT open. :banghead:
Any advice you have would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Looks like the replacement didn't work.

Let's run the same script to attempt the replacement again:

Excellent. The corrupt file was successfully replaced.

I am unable to open Internet Explorer. The IE window tries to open but then closes.

Was there any new software installed around the date that this problem started?

Thrilled that the corrupt file has now been replaced....your help to resolve the problem is really appreciated!!

Re: IE - I can't get my head around this strange problem. To answer your question, no new software has been installed recently.
I received a windows update around the same time which I uninstalled thinking this could be the cause??? I also received a McAfee antivirus update but to be honest I haven't had any problems with previous McAfee updates so I didn't think this was to blame.

A re boot didn't work......so the following day I booted up and tried unpinning the IE shortcut from the desktop and the taskbar. When I repinned them and tried to open them 'Hey presto' it was back up and going!!!

My joy was short lived however as after putting my laptop in sleep mode for a few hours when I next tried to open IE using both the desktop and taskbar shortcuts the problem had returned. I tried unpinning and repinning like before but this time that didn't work. :confused2:

Strangely today I have switched on my laptop and amazingly I can open IE.
I can't understand why this problem is intermittent. I haven't changed any settings and have only been using the laptop for internet browsing recently. I have never had this problem in the past.

Any suggestions?? :noidea:

Thanks

There are some odd issues that can occur with sleep mode (and are usually resolved by restarting Windows), so it might just be a fluke.

Is Windows Update working for you?

Yes it appears to be working fine. All but one of several windows updates were successfully installed today.
I'm hoping my system is okay now as I'd like to create a USB recovery drive but have been eager to resolve the file corruption problem first.
Thanks again for your help with this.

Very good. :thumbsup2:

I'll mark the thread solved. If you encounter any problems, please post back and I will continue to assist you.
