I have been trying to install an update through the Windows update client, 2020-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x64-based Systems (KB4592438). When I restart or shut down and install the update, it gets 7% complete before failing. I get the message that windows was unable to complete the update and it is undoing the changes. The event log gives me error code 0x80070490. I have gone through the instructions in the pinned post by niemiro for trying to fix the issue. The sfc /scannow found some errors so I ran the DISM scan. After that I downloaded and ran SFCFix. After running, the tool indicated that all corruptions were repaired so I went to the Update and Security tab in the settings and redownloaded the update and tried installing again. On restart, it got to the same 7% completion it has gone to every time before, and then failed.

After getting back to my desktop, I went to the CBS log folder and have uploaded it to my google drive here: CBS.zip

Please let me know if I should rerun any of the tools and reupload the log folder. Thank you!

I have gone through the steps again from the beginning after failing to get this issue resolved over the last month. SFC scan returned no errors, the DISM scan ran successfully, and running SFCFix found no corruptions to fix. I am at a complete loss and would appreciate any assistance. Thank you

In case anyone comes to this thread having a similar problem and needs a solution, here is what I did to fix my issue. The Media Creation Tool from Microsoft (Download Windows 10) will update Windows and get rid of any corrupted files causing the failures. Download and execute the file, choose Upgrade this PC, and I kept all my files and apps. It takes a while to update, but it successfully installed the update for me. Pretty simple when it was all said and done, I didn't realize the solution for my particular problem was that easy.
