Hello,

Have an error with Windows Update failing with error 0x800700c1 each time.
sfc /scannow immediately fails with "Der Windows-Ressourcenschutz konnte den Reparaturdienst nicht starten." (Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service)
"Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" immediately fails with error 193 "%1 ist keine zulässige Win32-Anwendung." (%1 is not a valid Win32-application)

sfc and dism neither work in safe mode.
I also tried with an in-place upgrade (not in safe mode), but even that fails.

I also noticed that, when starting windows, it hangs for a long time with either TrustedInstaller or Windows Module Installer.

Aside from formatting the entire disk and reinstalling windows, I'm out of my wits and could really use the help.
Thank you!

Hi and welcome to Sysnative.

Step 1.
Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

You are a god!

After running SFC.fix with the provided SFCfix.zip, I wanted to continue with DISM. I just hit enter, when Windows Update cut in and restarted my PC. No errors in restart or anything. No long blue screen with "TrustedInstaller" or "Windows Module Installer" when starting Windows.

After its restart, I continued with Step 2 which was also successful!

Great, this looks good. If there are no remaining issues we can mark this thread as solved.. (y)

Nope, no problems!

Ran sfc /scannow, which found at first try few corruptions. On second attempt everything was fine.
Started Windows Update, which finally downloaded & installed KB5030211.

Before I found this forum, I tried other suggestions, like running "Startup Repair". That thing only managed to kill my EFI Bootloader. I'm glad I still had an old Win10 CD somewhere to repair it after assigning letters to EPS and such.

Long story short: Everything works, thank you very much! :D

You're welcome. Glad everything is up and running again.
I will mark this thread as solved then.
