Well, it seems the next version of Windows is going to be Windows 10.

The launch event video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfveyXCsiA8

Start menu is back!

This makes me far too happy :p Windows 10 command prompt finally gets dragged into the 21st century | Ars Technica. More details on that: Rafael Rivera

The Technical Preview download should be here tomorrow: The Windows 10 Technical Preview Will Be Available For Download Tomorrow | TechCrunch

So, let's start the discussion! Thoughts on Windows Ten?

Nice to get the start menu back, although I got used to the full screen start menu pretty fast. I can see how it might be annoying to those multi-tasking on slower systems as it may take a moment to render, but I've never had problems on my home system.

To be honest, I'm most excited about being able to ctrl-v into CMD :smile9:

So what will Paste be then?
That will be the end for Windows! :hysterical:

A nice introduction: Introducing Windows 10 - the best Windows yet

Windows 10 “continuum” design exploration (no sound):

Well, installed and working well in VMWare player.

Lots of images below! :)

The installer seems to be unchanged, still using the Aero design from Windows 7/Vista installers

Even though I set it up as a new PC, it still imported my settings from Windows 8, including wallpaper, date/time settings, colour scheme, IE settings etc.

Much more use of drop shadows in Windows 10 compared to Windows 8 - it adds a bit more depth but could be toned down a bit IMO

Seems like they're trying to roll out new icons and things, but they're not all ready yet.

Of course we've got the new start menu

The feedback app is nice, you can see what other people have commented on and vote "Me Too" if you have the same issue

Oh look, a BSOD! Just for a bit of fun I ran NotMyFault on W8 ;) I'll get the dumps for those interested

Still shows as W8 in WinDbg, but symbol errors aplenty. Seems the symbol servers haven't been updated.

You can troubleshoot most symbol related issues by turning on symbol loading diagnostics (!sym noisy) and repeating the command that caused symbols to be loaded.
You should also verify that your symbol search path (.sympath) is correct.

To be honest I think the Windows 8 MEtro UI looks better than the new start menu..

It looks nice, I like it. I presume they may add some sort of customization to it eventually (if it's not already in the appearance settings somewhere) for changing the color, making it transparent, etc. It looks like Stephen chose the OS color as blue, so his start screen matches that color. I think whatever color you chose, that's what color the start screen follows. I could be wrong.

You are correct, the start menu colour can be changed. No transparency option, but colour is there

I take it there is a lot of time to go for Windows 10 to be released as you're still using evaluation copies.

Windows 7 will become the next Windows XP; I don't like the Windows 10 Start Menu, it still looks horrible. A terrible amalgamation of Windows 7 and Windows 8 Start Menus.

AFAIK the command prompt is opened using a small menu, it's opened by pressing the Windows Key + V.
It's either V or X.
