Hi!

I had a Steam program crash and lock up Windows while running Windows Update in the background (rookie mistake). Anyway... since that happened, I've been unable to Install Windows Update KB5053606. It gets to either 20% or 100% finished, but then I get this message: "There were some problems installing updates, but we’ll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x800f0831)".

I've tried:

1. Running the attached batch file "Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components.bat".

2. Deleting the "%systemroot%\softwaredistribution" and ""%systemroot%\catroot2" directories.

3. Running "sfc "scannow", which reports "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

4. Running "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth", which reports: "

Error: 0x800f081f

The source files could not be found.
Use the "Source" option to specify the location of the files that are required to restore the feature. For more information on specifying a source location, see Configure a Windows Repair Source.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log." DISM.log is attached.

5. Running ComponentScanner,.exe, which isn't supported on Insider builds.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi.

I was finally able to successfully install KB5053606 by performing an in-place upgrade using the Media Creation Tool. Marking solved. Thanks anyway!
