Is there a windows 10 default equalizer? I cannot find it.
If not, who can recommend a good free third party alternative to enhance laptop sounds quality and volume?
Thank you!

Also, most systems that have speakers like Beats Audio or B&O also have specific audio drivers for same, and Windows 10 has been known to update to far less ideal ones at times.

Always check the support pages for your specific make and model for audio related drivers or utilities. Even if this dedicated software is several years old it has been optimized for the precise speaker hardware you have.

On one HP laptop I have with Beats Audio Windows 10 has replaced the OEM audio drivers twice over the years, and the sound quality goes way down instantly. Reinstalling the original driver (which I now keep archived in case I need to do so again) brings it right back.

Not sure what your expectations are, but don't expect miracles. As good as miniature speaker technology has gotten in the last few years, there's just no way you can come close to audiophile quality, full range, sound out of two tiny speakers powered the electronics found in a notebook.

You could probably do better with quality head phones if portability is still a requirement. Or better yet, a direct connection to a quality stereo or surround sound receiver and a decent set of speakers.

Also note, depending on the driver for your integrated sound, you may have an equalizer already. Windows 10 has one built in too - though it is often disabled by the drivers of the integrated sound hardware. See: Windows 10: Activate and set the equalizer (matconlist.com)

thank you digerati.. helpful info. my exectations are modest, I should mention that I do use an external K11 Konfulon stereo speaker.
following the link instructions was not successful as there is no tab for ''improvements' in my case and no equalizer to be found.

thank you britechguy, yes something like that may have happened here.
a driver update and I see no more equalizer to be found.
rollback option is greyed out... or where can I find older drivers. it's realtek.
i thought there was something called realtek audio manager for download but I don't see it anymore.

There are three Realtek audio drivers on the Spectre 13 Convertible support pages: HP Spectre 13-ae000 x360 Convertible PC Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Customer Support

You need to look in Device Manager and see what driver is in use (and I'll bet it's a Microsoft driver) and if it's a Microsoft driver install the HP Driver instead. In this case the one dating from 2019 for Windows 10 Versions 1803/1809/1903.
Thank you everyone. We can close this thread.
