Ive tried everything under the sun to upgrade my Windows 10 1909 without success as it keeps failing.
Ive downloaded many Windows 10 ISO Files and run them off a USB Thumb Drive even used Rufus and Ive also tried Windows10Upgrade9252 and also MediaCreationTool20H2, MediaCreationTool21H1, MediaCreationTool22H2.
Also tried it with a clean boot.
And still no luck it doesn't even reboot it just goes to 100% and then back to my original desktop screen saying Windows Installation has failed.
Ive run FRST64.exe and SFCFix.exe
No Antiviral installed and with the latest Bios installed.
Ive also cleared the SoftwareDistribution and run disk cleanup. You name it Ive done it.
I don't want to do a fresh install from scratch as there is so much data and programs on my SSD. Oh by the way I have backed it all up with a macrium image
One other thing I have also installed the macrium image onto another brand new Intel NUC just to see if it was a hardware issue but its just does the same
Ive also tried it with GPT and MBR no difference something in the registry must be corrupt
Please can anyone help me with this situation as I'm going blind reading so many forums and trying different things and still with no luck.

Thank You

Hi @Wolfzz,

Welcome to Sysnative Forums!

If you haven't already, please review the posting instructions here, and attach the requested log files. Without log files, our helpers will not be able to assist, and this will slow down fixing your machine.

If logs have been already been provided, our team of volunteers will analyse the provided log files to build a fix for your system. Please be aware that this may take several days from your initial post, due to the high volume of threads that we receive.

Hi and thanks for creating this thread,

Export registry key as hive file.
  • Open the Start menu of Windows and type CMD.
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, select the option Run as administrator.
  • Copy and paste the following command into the command prompt and press enter.
Code:
reg save "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control" "%userprofile%\Desktop\Control.hiv"
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called Control.hiv.
  • ZIP this file and attach it to your next reply.

Hi,

Download and run SetupDiag from Microsoft
  • Download
    60e45c659164d-SetupDiag.png
    SetupDiag to your desktop.
  • Right-click on SetupDiag.exe and select Run as administrator.
  • When completed the following files are created: "Logs.zip, SetupDiag.exe.config and SetupDiagResults.log"
  • Attach SetupDiagResults.log and Logs.zip to your next reply.

I downloaded the SetupDiag and right clicked it with admin rights but the command prompt just flashes and nothing appears on the desktop eg: Logs.zip, SetupDiag.exe.config and SetupDiagResults.log

Please provide the following logfiles in a ZIP-file.

C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther\Setuperr.log
C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther\Setupact.log

Please do also the following.

Provide the profile information of this server.
  • Click the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
Copy and paste the following commands one at a time into the command prompt and press enter after each.
    Code:
    reg query "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList" /s > "%userprofile%\desktop\ProfileList.txt"
    reg query "HKEY_USERS" >> "%userprofile%\desktop\ProfileList.txt"
    wmic useraccount get name,sid >> "%userprofile%\desktop\ProfileList.txt"
  • These commands will collect the System and Application logs and create ProfileList.txt on your Desktop.
  • Attach this file in your next reply.

Sorry Maxstar but its after midnight here in Perth Western Australia and I'm getting tied thanks for you help so far and hopefully we can talk tomorrow, but then again its the weekend and I don't expect you to work on the weekend.

No problem and currently with I am analysing the logs and this may take some time too. I Will provide the next steps ASAP and maybe within a few hours...

Hi,

Start
6530fbb0f4101-56f31e53c97da-SFCFix.PNG
SFCFix to collect files.
  • Download the attachment SFCFixScript.txt and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFixScript.txt file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, the following files will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt and UsrClass.zip.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) and (USsrClass.zip) as attachment in your next reply.

Yes, it seems the following key is the issue:

Rich (BB code):
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\TestUsrClass\FirefoxURL-308046B0AF4A39CB]
@="Firefox URL"
"FriendlyTypeName"="Firefox URL"
"URL Protocol"=""
"EditFlags"=dword:00000002

I found the same issue at ms forums, see the last post of DH121: Redirecting

Ive just read about it on that forum. That's ridiculous in my book however its worth a try.
As there is only one user if I go into the registry and delete that value would you think that may work?
Would it effect Firefox in anyway would you think?

Thanks

I would first create a full system image, just to be sure. Then you can try that solution, to see if it works.

I've checked multiple systems and VM's here with Firefox and none of them has this key and values, so it's an odd issue!
