Hi after a recent update my system has problems with internet explorer ieframe.dll errors I have followed all your instructions and it still defeats me
SysWOW64\ieframe.dll is either not to designed to run ????.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling IE I have replaced ieframe.dll in both system32 and wow64 and tried to re-register with regsvr32 which fails
These .dll's were from and identical system.

Also when go to add remove programs Turn Windows features on off the page is empty.

I have exhausted all my restore points in both standard clean and safe modes.
My restore points have now been reduced to about 5 available only with the same date.

This system is booting from MBR 250 gig samsung 850 ssd
12 gig ram
I7-2600K @ 3.4
Standard clocking
Nvidia GTX-580

Thanks for the help
Regards Bob Andrews.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.

We are not done fixing the issue yet. This was just the beginning. Please do the following when able:

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service and just provide the link here.

The only faults I have at the moment is with IE not starting just a quick flash

The system done some update's and caused more problems I have now disabled updates and had to restore to a few days early
so do you want me to rerun the last steps ?

OKay I have some more info for you regarding IE 11
I deleted all directory's for IE in both Program File and x86 folders When I originally installed IE 11 I installed it to my J: drive Program files
Now the interesting thing is sfc /scannow re-installs IE 11 to my J: drive checking the registry all IE 11 entries point to the J: drive
So I copied the new install that sfc /scannow done from J: drive to c: program folders and it all works BUT only if i execute it from the c: folders
When IE 11 is running from the c: drive I then pinned it to the taskbar clicking on it to start it does not work
On checking the properties on the task bar it still points to the J: drive manually changing the properties to point to c: fixes the problem.
So it looks like I have a problem with the registry .
There are a lot of pointers in the registry point IE 11 to the j: drive
Do you know of a way to reset all the registry pointers for IE ?
Thanks

its okay I found it HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
and its my fault I changed it a long time ago when I setup my Samsung SSD

Okay after resetting the registry back to standard and deleting the Internet explorer folders restart
Then execute sfc /scannow to have windows re install c: Internet explorer folders,, Internet Explore still does not run unless I have a copy off it on the J: drive
Checking the registry for "J:\program file\internet explorer" there are still a lot of pointers to this folder.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\iexplore.exe\shell\open\command
points to

"j:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" %1
and it won't let me change it

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\iexplore.exe\shell\open\command

using psexec -s -i regedit.exe

Still does not let me change the key
any ideas how to change the key

I changed the permissions for those key and set them back to the c: drive all seems to working okay
I will do as you ask
attached checkSur.log after running system ready ness tool
Attached SFCFix.txt after running the above then running sfcFix.exe with no script

Thanks

Give me a fresh copy of your COMPONENTS hive and the following

Step#2 - Export registry as hive

  • Click on the Start button and in the search box, type regedit
  • When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  • When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing
  • Once selected, click File > Export....
  • Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*).
  • Name this file ComponentBasedServicing (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Right-click on the saved file and choose Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder.
  • Attach the .ZIP file to your next post.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload to SendSpace and just provide the link here.

Step#3 - Export SideBySide

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type regedit
  2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide
  4. Once selected, click File > Export....
  5. Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*)
  6. Name this file SxS (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.

Once done please upload this file via Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace.

I see you missed the COMPONENTS hive request! I do need the hive.

Please start with the following:

Step#1 - FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download attached file and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.
6. Please run SURT again and attach CheckSUR.log.
