OS: Window 7 Prof N; System 64-bit
Hardware: VMWare Fusion 10 (running Windows 7 as VM) under host MacBook Pro 2011 OS High Sierra

Hello,

This is my 1st post on this forum. Thank you in advance for helping.

I am able to create a system restore point on Window 7. However, if I try to restore a previous system report then I get an error "System restore did not complete successfully ...."followed by "Details: Incorrect function. (x80070001)".

I have also ran sfc /scannow and a few errors are reported. I attached the sfc report (sfcdetails) that identifies the errors. I then ran SFCFix (downloaded from your web site; thanks) and it also reported 10 corrupted files. I am not sure if these corrupted files are related to System Restore issue.

Otherwise, my Windows 7 appears to work well with all my applications.

I also note I am no expert in OS (PC or Mac), just an informed user.

Many thanks if you can help.

Hi!

Those files were probably removed by you when you used the "slimming system" feature of wise disk cleaner or wise care 365.
But I don't think they are necessary for system restore.

Many thanks for this info. Xilolee.

Do I assume then these missing files are innocuous for the safe operation of Windows 7 OS?
Also, would you have any suggestion on how I would go about correcting the "System restore point" issue?

Thanks again.

Hello and welcome,

Copy the file C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\cbs.log to your desktop.
Zip the copied file and attach the zipped cbs.log to your next reply.

Hello PeterJ,

Thank your for your reply. Please find attached cbs.log file. I appreciate the time you are taking to help me.

Great.

Restart the computer.
Open an elevated command prompt.
Copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each.

Code:
sfc /scannow
Wait for this to finish before you continue

Code:
copy %windir%\Logs\CBS\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Zip this file and attach the zipped cbs.txt to your next post.

The log looks clean. Any remaining issues ?

Thanks a lot, Peter. I am very grateful.

FYI, I also had the issue of not being able to restore any of my Window 7 OS using a System Restore Points I had created previously. It always gave me error "Details: Incorrect function. (x80070001)". I then (yesterday), deleted all of restore points and immediately created a new one. I tested the newly created one and it successfully did System Restore. I am not sure how the System Restore points got corrupted but I am glad that I am back with a error free OS. What saved me is that I use SuperDuper Clone App to backup my MBP 2011 weekly in addition to Time Machine on MBP.

Thanks again.

Great and your welcome.
I will mark this thread as solved.

Take care.
