Hello Trxnce, welcome to Sysnative!

I'm afraid KB976902 is no longer hosted by Microsoft as it has since been replaced with KB2533552. The download link is no longer valid:

http://download.microsoft.com/downl...A97C-CB1EFF8D44EF/Windows6.1-KB976902-x86.msu

This means I have no way of getting clean copies of your missing packages, so this can't be fixed. I hate having to say this to such a simple problem, but the only way to resolve this dilemma is to do a repair install:

https://www.sysnative.com/forums/wi...-install-windows-windows-7-windows-vista.html

It's like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut, but it is truly the only option!

Tom

i cannot do this as i dont have my activation key as this is an old PC are you sure that is the only option ?

Did this computer come preinstalled with Windows, or did you buy Windows and install it?

the update is KB976932 not the one you posted does that change anything

The update that is failing might be KB976932, but it is because of corruption in an update that is already installed on your system, KB976902:

The only way to fix this 0x800B0100 errors is to replace the corrupt or missing packages, which we can't do because the update has been replaced.

Tom

Hi i brought windows and installed it but have long lost lost the disc :( so are you telling me the only fix now it to basically reinstall windows? (by the way thanks for you help so far)

It is with regret that I have to concur with Tom here.

have also looked for the update file on my own system, in my update repository and on a separate Windows 7 install, and cannot find the exact package files needed for your system.

Normally we can fix this error by downloading the package files ourselves and replacing them on your machine. Unfortunately, since we cannot find the original package, we cannot replace it on your system.

I believe I may have found the files. Please hold off for now, I'll get back to you in a minute.

Stephen

Sadly, whilst I have found the update, the files are not the specific versions you need. :(

You need:

Code:
    servicing\packages\Package_1_for_KB976902~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.1.[B]17105[/B].cat
    servicing\packages\Package_1_for_KB976902~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.1.[B]17105[/B].mum
    servicing\packages\Package_for_KB976902_RTM~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.1.[B]17105[/B].cat
    servicing\packages\Package_for_KB976902_RTM~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.1.[B]17105[/B].mum
    servicing\packages\Package_for_KB976902~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.1.[B]17105[/B].cat
    servicing\packages\Package_for_KB976902~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.1.[B]17105[/B].mum

I found the same files but ending in ~x86~~6.1.1.17514 which means they are the wrong version and not compatible....

I'll keep looking, but a repair install seems likely here.

Stephen

EDIT 04:53PM GMT - I'm almost there, just found a direct download for the update. It seems it's still hosted on the MS servers, but nothing links to it. But I'm almost there!

OK then...

I've sourced some of the necessary files. A few are missing, but we'll start with these.

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Please download the file, Packs.zip from my Dropbox -->here<--and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
  3. Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
  4. A window will open showing two folders, Manifests and Packages
  5. Open the Manifests folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

  6. Open the Packages folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

  7. Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again
  8. When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:

    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

Regards,
Stephen

EDIT - Packs.zip file pulled whilst I check my fix over. I'll reupload the file when I am done

EDIT2 - File re-uploaded.

Please try again, I've never seen that before... If it does it again, we'll wait and see what Tom says. He's far more experienced at this than me :-)
