Win7 (32 & 64 bit) systems that will not install any updates to .NET Framework

I have a client with almost 12 systems running a mix of Windows 7 32-bit and Windows 7 64-bit that will not successfully install any patches related to .NET Framework.

Any other Windows updates like monthly security patches or Defender updates will install without a problem.

I have run both the Windows Update troubleshooter and the .Net Repair Tool but neither have changed my situation in the slightest.

SFC /scannow comes back clean with it reporting no violations.

The CBS folder (from one system) has been uploaded here ws005-CBS.zip

Any assistance in troubleshooting that I can get is greatly appreciated.

For the one that I included the CBS folder for it was 4.6.1. I'm not sure if that is consistent across the board or not. I can check that in the morning. Getting ready to jump into a maintenance window so won't be able to do any more work on this till the a.m.

I was able to try the install of the 4.8 standalone package and got an error. See screenshot.

Please do the following:

Using the .NET Collect Utility

  1. Download collect.exe and save to your desktop.
  2. Go ahead and run the tool
  3. The utility creates a compressed cabinet of all the needed logs to %TEMP%\vslogs.cab.
  4. Please zip/attach to this post or if too large, send using a service such as SendSpace.

Most recently (again on this one machine) the two patches that continue to fail are 4514602 & 4503548. But it's also had failures on patches like 4507420. I have a patch history on this machine that goes back to October of last year (when the customer came under our management) and almost without exception any patch in that time that has had the words ".NET Framework" in the title has failed. Pretty sure I'd find that to be true on the other 10 or so systems.

The update is not applicable to your computer.

Third link result:
That is the same download and install from this morning (.NET 4.8 standalone installer) so needless to say got same "Installation Did Not Succeed"

Assuming you are referring to KB4516655, the answer is yes. It appears to have been installed on 9/11.

And then I assume I should try the 4.8 installer? Or should I just reinstall the 4.6.1 version that is currently installed?
