Have Windows 10 Version 1511, 64-bit system on my HP laptop. Weird issue lately in notifications area which hadn't happened before saying my antivirus is turned off as well as spyware prog. What??? I use Webroot SecureAnywhere antivirus and antispyware, and it IS turned on and working and use ZoneAlarm firewall which is also on and functioning.

Why the he** is it doing this? Is this a Win10 updates snafu? Is it just a matter of turning off this notification in the Security and Maintenance area? It's really annoying.

Thanks for help.

Hi doodlebug

If you are seeing the notice only at system startup - no worries. The problem is that "fast startup" is too fast sometimes, that it doesn't fully 'see' the antivirus program running (probably because it takes a few nano-seconds longer to completely start than "fast startup" expects) ... if you see your Webroot & ZoneAlarm executables running in Task Manager, everything is fine. Windows fast startup is just too impatient sometimes.

Thank you so much for replying! No, actually, the notifications were happening all the time after startup, sometimes as often as once an hour. BUT, here's the good news. I did a search on the issue and found out that these notifications can be changed by going to Control Panel, System and Maintenance, and unchecking the firewall and virus boxes. Just going to system settings from the taskbar notifications area will not change what needs to be changed. On one forum it said that hackers can change registry settings to turn off firewall and virus progs and this notification about firewall and virus settings was done by Microsoft in an attempt to warn you if that was the case but alas they have screwed it up, because if your antivirus and firewall *are* on and working, there should be no notification at all.

Thank you for your help.

Hi again

Thank you for keeping us updated. I imagine that a future update to Webroot and Zonealarm (perhaps with another Windows Update or two as well) will allow the notifications to work like they should again. So long as you can see their executables running in Task Manager, and get results from their scans and protections - your workaround should do nicely.
