So lost right now, I hope I post this correctly (please be patient with me)
I believe the issues I have are related to Windows 10 updates because of the timing of the problems:
Issue began with a third-party program (Inkscape) not displaying any fonts, text was invisible and only 4 fonts were there as options but none visible once typed.
Then Skype gave an error after logging that the application could not be started (error 0xlx) since yesterday but still worked after restarting Skype
Then Chrome wouldn't work (error 0xc000007b)
Then tried to update and some updates failed ---- but says updates are up to date
Details below..... of what I tried (I know it is not all Windows OS update specific but I have included it all in case it helps):
Inkscape troubleshooting:
Fonts/text not visible in previous and new projects
1. Repaired (issue remains)
2. Uninstalled
3. Installed v 1.0 (new issue 'internal error had to close')
5. Installed v 0.92.4 (or 0.92.1 I can't recall)
6. Program now opens
7. Still no font visible (first issue remains)
Chrome troubleshooting:
After restarting for Inkscape once more Chrome brought a .dll error (see screenshot)
1. Restarted (issue remains)
2. 'Repair' option greyed out in Apps & Features
3. Install latest version .exe again (issue remains)
Windows Update troubleshooting:
After Chrome stopped working (Remote Desktop is fine for accessing my pc still) I tried to check updates for Windows
1. Checked for recent updates
2. Uninstalled selected updates (see photo)
3. Restarted (issues remain)
4. Tried to download and install 3x pending updates
5. Restarted (issue remains, some updates failed (see screenshot)
(Chrome issue seems to be related to .NET Framework so investigated the error on that failed update)
6. Tried to use the troubleshooting here: Fix: Windows Update Error 0x80240017 - Appuals.com
7. Method 1 failed to progress once it reached 'checking for pending restart' - cancelled process
8. Method 2 did nothing
9. Tried to use the troubleshooting here: Windows 10 Cumulative Update (KB4565483) failed to install Error 0x800f0900
10. Ran elevated CMD with the command line: dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup (see screenshot)
11. Restarted (issue remains, strangely my Inkscape icon moved to the other screen on the Desktop, also Desktop keeps refreshing and PC is general sounds like it is using high CPU)
12. Checked for updates again (see image, a random security update installed) (issue remains)
13. Checked for updates -- says all up to date
14. Downloaded update KB4652900 from Windows Update Catalog manually .msu file
15. Restarted (issues remain)
16. Update is in the list as successful this time (see screenshot) and no new updates
17. Downloaded update KB456548 from Windows Update Catalog manually .msu file
I am presently awaiting the result of this update installation, not hopeful
