[SOLVED] Win 7 X86 Can't update. SFC and DISM errors too

Hi,

I've done lots of things to try to get this working: sfc, dism, windows update repair tool. Nothing works. So I've attached the SFCFix log and provided a link to the CBS files. Any help is much appreciated!

SFCFix Script

!!! WARNING !!! The following fix is only relevant for this system and no other, applying this fix on another computer will not work and most likely will cause problems...

• Download SFCFix.exe (by Niemiro) and save it to the Desktop
• Download the file SFCFIX.ZIP, attached below, and save this to your Desktop
• On your Desktop, make sure you have the two files:
  
  SFCFix.exe and
  
  SFCFIX.zip
• Drag the file SFCFIX.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it
• The SFCFix tool will process the script
• Upon completion, a log file SFCFix.txt should be created on your Desktop
• Open the SFCFix.txt log and copy & paste the contents to your post

Just a small note your Windows 7 is x64 not x86!

Yeah, you're right that I got the version of windows wrong. It isn't X86. I forgot when I last updated the OS that I chose to use x64 even though this computer only has 4G of memory.

The file you provided seems to have fixed all of the corrupted files. SFCFix log results look good, sfc /scannow says everything is OK, and Windows Update finally updated successfully! So thank you very much!

Hi David,

That's good news.

You probably know that Microsoft ended support for Windows 7 on the beginning of this year, this means there are no more Security Updates for this OS unless you have a Company and pay to have access to the Windows Updates released after February 2020!

For home users its risky to continue using this Operating System specially if connected to the Internet! the recommended action is to Upgrade to Windows 10 (for free) or replace the OS with something else for example using one of the many free Linux distributions.

Do you have any plans to address this?

Yes, I know it is end of life. I have a 'hesitant' user who hates updates, and have been trying to keep this system as updated as possible. Using 3rd party anti-malware, no IE or Edge, updated Firefox/Chrome. But that's still not ideal. I am looking at updating to Win 10 sometime in the next couple of months. Need to get a good 'debloat' tool to get rid of all of the objectionable trash that MS throws onto the desktop tiles.
