Sysnative Support:

I recently upgraded to a new computer - OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit - previous computer was Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit

While setting up the Back Up schedule I received the following error message:
"The function attempted to use a name that is reserved for use by another function (0x80071a90)"

I searched the internet for this particular error and found on MS Support this recommendation:
Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

I ran the scan as recommended and reviewed the report the scan produced but find nothing noted as to which files are corrupt that cannot be repaired - report is attached

Any recommendations on what steps I need to take to resolve this issue?

Thank you
Mitch G

I overlooked explaining that after I ran the scan it reported that: 'Windows Resources found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log%WindDir%\Logs\CBS\CbS.log" but a review of the report I find no files that are corrupt and not repaired.

I ran the scan twice with the same results

Thanks

No, but I will run through the recommendations and see if the issues are resolve and report back - thanks jcgriff2

Hi jcgriff2:

I ran the trouble shooter and if fixed a couple errors and detected others it was not able to fix - I than followed through with a clean start and rebooted and checked for updates but there were none indicated as needed

I rebooted after resetting for a normal start and ran troubleshooter again with the same results:

Hi Mitch,

It looks like you now need the help of the Windows Updates Experts here. I'll request help.

Thanks John

Hi Tom:

Thanks - sorry for the delay - a bit of a busy day with work -

I've attached the CBS Log as per your request:

Thanks

Hi Mitch,

No worries, I'll still be around so just post whenever suits you best.

Hmm no issues there, or in your CBS log. Can you upload your Windows Update log please?

C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log

Hi Mitch,

I'm seeing two separate issues now, but I need more information to diagnose this:

Export registry as hive

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type regedit
  2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate

  4. Once selected, click File > Export....
  5. Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*)
  6. Name this file WUReg (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.

Zip up the WUReg file and attach it to your next post please!

Hi Tom:

Checking in to see if you have had a chance to review the WUREG file I attached?

Please advise

Thanks

Hi Mitch,

Can you boot into the recovery environment, and launch command prompt please: How to use the Windows 7 System Recovery Environment Command Prompt

When command prompt is launched, type in the following command and press enter:

DISM /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions

Then reboot your computer, booting into Windows normally. Run this FixIt in aggressive mode: You receive a "0x80070002" or "0x80070003" error code after you download an update from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or from Windows Server Update Services

Then try updating and post your CBS log please :)

Hi Tom:

Once the Command Prompt is launched and I enter the command I get ERROR: 1639 - "The command-line is missing a required servicing command"

I'm unable to boot directly from the DVD supplied with my pc so I accessed the Recovery Environment using the F8 key - the Windows Recovery is on the D drive - once at the menu page I selected the Command Prompt - did I miss a step?

Please advise,

Thanks Mitch

Hi Tom:

I attempt the fix suggestions you made on 5/3 again, entering the Recovery Environment using the F8 key as explained in my 5/4 reply - once at the menu options I selected Run Start up Repair - after it ran it stated no issues were found, I than selected the Command Prompt and entered the DISM /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions command. It returned stating ERROR 2 - 'Image Tool could not be accessed'.

Please advise

Thanks
Mitch

Hi Tom:

I know you're busy - but have you had a chance to review my two follow up messages on 5/4 and 5/7 following the recommendations you made on 5/3?

Any suggestions at this point?

Thanks
Mitch
