Hi My last thread done well. Let's try this one!!
What's your favorite freeware and how do you use it!
I love Search Everything. You just start typing in the search bar at the top of Search Everything and it will find what your looking for. Also great for finding left behind files after uninstalling software. I think this is a must have program!
Everything FAQ

Trying to find certain files and folders on your PC can be a headache causing nightmare, especially when you need a file in a hurry. Incredible free search utility from Voidtools that instantly finds…well…everything on your computer.

Using Everything
Everything is a search engine for your Windows PC. It will index your local and external NTFS drives for instant searching capability and shows every file and folder on your system. You can run it locally on your hard drive or get the portable version to run from a flash drive which is great for working between machines. Once starting up Everything it takes little time to index all your files into a searchable database, around at a rate of about of one minute per one million files.

Since a freeware is pretty much any program that can be downloaded and used for free, I'll vote for the one I use the most, Google Chrome.

But it's true. If you think about it, most programs you install are freewares. Unless you pay for half of your programs. I can list you all my programs and most of them, if not all are freewares. So it's basically like asking "What is your favorite software?".

Google Chrome is boring:hysterical:!! Browsers are boring! Use your imagination Aura!! Surely you have a better one than Chrome!!
How about Macrium Reflect??? The best free imaging software on the net IMHO. Try harder Aura!!:lol:

Well then I'll say VirtualBox. I love it, despite the fact that I have to play with VMware more, I didn't set up an ESXi server for nothing. Once I'm done farming (Diablo III), I'll list you all the freewares (free software) I have installed on my system, you'll see what I'm talking about and why it's hard to choose.

Once I'm done farming (Diablo III),
You haven't done much farming lately. Every time I log on, you're here. What do you plant?? Just a couple of your favorite freeware will be plenty.
Save some for other members to post!:dance:
Do you have one that I can't live without???

Nope, no Google Chrome here. I was a long-time Firefox user but switched to Pale Moon last year and is definitely a favorite.

Adding a +1 for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware!

However, browsers and security programs aside, without a doubt, WinPatrol is my favorite freeware program. There is also a licensed version available which I happen to use. WinPatrol was originally developed by Bill Pytlovany. Due to real-life circumstances, Bill had to sell the program last year. It was purchased by Bret Lowry who has been a software developer for almost 30 years and has worked in the security sector since 2005 and has continued development of the program.

Below is a list I created some years ago of the features included in the free version of WinPatrol:

WinPatrol Free and WinPatrol PLUS:

• Detect and Review New Auto-Startup Programs
• Alerted you to New Browser Add-Ons like BHO's and Tool Bars
• Alerts you to newly installed Window Services
• Alerts you to creation of Scheduled Tasks
• Alerts you and Locks Changes to File Type Associations
• Alerts you to newly registered ActiveX components
• Alerts you to changes in IE Home and Search pages
• Alerts you to changes in the Windows HOST File
• Lets you know if your AutoUpdate or UAC settings change
• Add/Remove and Review Auto-Startup Programs
• Automatically Disable Reoccurring Startup Programs
• Delay Auto-Startup programs for quick bootup
• Review and Remove unwanted Scheduled Tasks
• Remove Unwanted Brower Add-Ons like BHO's and Tool Bars
• Review, Display and Kill Multiple Running Tasks with a single click
• Review, Stop and Control Window Services
• Manage and Automatically Remove Unwanted Cookies
• Review and Edit your Windows HOST File
• Review and Remove Hidden Files
• Track Date/Time when programs are first detected on your system
• Multiple System Report Options
• Advanced Examination of HIDDEN Registry Startup Keys

I cannot list a favorite, but here are some of my favorites

MBAM - https://www.malwarebytes.org/
Paint .Net - Paint.NET - Free Software for Digital Photo Editing (Better than gimp IMO)
Chrome - Chrome
Notepad++ - Notepad++ Home
Visual Studios Community - https://www.visualstudio.com/products/visual-studio-community-vs (I have the professional version but the free version is just as good assuming you agree with the license agreement)
Putty - http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html
Classic Shell - http://www.classicshell.net/ (A must have for windows 8)
7zip - http://www.7-zip.org/
Sysinternals Suite - https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb842062 (Lots of great tools handy for debugging and controlling misc things in windows)

I have other favorite Freewares but they are more use case specific, the above are fairly general and a must have for me.

Alright, I'm done farming. And donetao, "farming" in a video game usually means to repeat an action a lot in order to get something out of it. In my case, I was farming Nephalem Rift for gear and levels. Here's all the freewares I have installed on my system (I'm sure I'm missing a few as well), and I'm nitpicking:

  • uTorrent - Not even sure if I need it anymore, I used it to download Linux .iso back when I had a really bad Internet connection;
  • Adobe Reader - Duh;
  • Android Studio - Android Dev. class. Should had went with Eclipse/ADT/SDK but eh, I'll deal with it;
  • CCleaner - Last time I used it is to write canneds on it's usage;
  • CutePDF Writer - Muh PDFs;
  • DEAMON Tools Lite - Will uninstall it soon since you can natively mount .iso in Windows 8 now;
  • Dropbox - Cloud storage;
  • Google Chrome - Captain Obvious
  • HexChat - For the support forums IRC;
  • Icons from File - Yes, I make a lot of canneds and I like to add a little representative icon to each;
  • IrfanView - Image viewer, resizing (I do a lot of it for my Android Dev. class and other applications);
  • Java - Netbeans, Android Studio, etc;
  • JetClean - Back when I was testing it, not needed anymore, time to uninstall it;
  • LastPass - Awesome password manager. I have the Premium version, but the desktop version is still free, a must have;
  • League of Legends - Free game;
  • Malwarebytes - I also have the Premium version, but the free version is one hell piece of software, +1 as well;
  • Netbeans - Probably my favorite IDE: Java, C/C++, HTML/CSS, Javascript, PHP, etc.;
  • Notepad++ - I couldn't live without it, even thought I'm considering Sublime Text now. But I just switched to a dark theme yesterday and I love it;
  • VirtualBox - Couldn't live without my VMs<3
  • Pencil - For my Android Dev. class, to make mock-ups of my Android app;
  • Pidgin - I don't even use it anymore, it was for secure chat but I have a few people that would like me to use it to talk to me about sensitive things sometimes so I keep it;
  • Revo Uninstaller Pro - I have the Premium version, but the free version is really good as well;
  • SecuniaPSI - I just wish that v3 wasn't that buggy;
  • ShareX - Best screenshotting software ever. All the others aren't even remotely close to its level;
  • Skype - Muh chat;
  • Speccy - Mostly for Speccy threads across forums;
  • StarUML - For my Android Dev. and Java EE class, to make design schemas, patterns, etc.;
  • TeamSpeak 3 - For when I play games, mostly Guild Wars 2, I go in my Guild's TS;
  • Teamviewer - For remote support, even thought I've been "limited" a few dozens times, still finding a way to bypass it, somehow;
  • TrueCrypt - To hide personal/private data, just in case, and because I like playing with it;
  • VLC media player - Windows Media Player is a joke, not installing codecs, VLC will take care of it;
  • WinDirStat - For my organization paranoia;
  • Windows SDK for Windows 8.1 - Mostly for WinDbg (BSOD Analysis);
  • WinRAR - I've always liked WinRAR, plus the contextual menu options for 7-Zip add more clicks, I'm lazy;
  • WSCC - Just look it up, it's awesome. A console with every Sysinternals and NirSoft tools put together. Whoever showed me that, I'll love him forever.

Wow, that took a while to type down.

Wheww! Are there any more freeware left. I wish I was smart enough to use all of those.:thud:
I was hoping we could drag this thread out for awhile. Looks like you covered them all Aura.
I'll see if I can find one on my desktop! I'll be right back.
OK I found one Belarc Advisior. I think I down loaded it to find my W7 Key. It has some other features also!!

It was mostly to show that pretty much every programs you install is a freeware. Even if you have the paid version of a program, if it have a free version of some sort, it fits into the freeware category. My favorite freeware is Google Chrome, since its the one I use the most obviously, but if I could make a top 5, I would list other freewares as well. The list could go on as well. Now I have 2-3 programs to uninstall...

You must be very busy farming and using all those programs, and you even have more???? I see your age is 21
I have under shorts that old.:hysterical: I use to have a Microsoft Windows Visiting Expert title.:dance:
Now I'm just a contributor. That's good enough!!

To late to edit! the above reply!! I'll edit it here!!
Hot CPU Tester Pro is a system health and stability tester. It tests CPU, chipset and virtually all parts of motherboard for errors/bugs, defective parts and components. It is a burn-in test with uniquely designed state of the art DefectTrack engine. DefectTrack is a technology developed by 7Byte to diagnose systems regarding its stability and in general, computer's health. Hot CPU Tester is currently being used in many labs and governmental organizations around the world, as a reliable stability testing utility.

Wow, I have a lot too.

For my W7 systems, I might have to say MSE. Since WD comes with W8, I guess I cannot count that.

I also like Pale Moon and WinPatrol, though I recommend WinPatrol PLUS. Others include:
CoreTemp
MBAM Free (though I recommend MBAM Premium)
Speccy
CCleaner
Foxit Reader
eXtreme PSU calculator
Pandora - by far, one of my favorites
System Internals (AutoRuns, Process Explorer, Process Monitor)
Belarc Advisor
7-Zip
CPU-Z
Partition Assistant Pro
HWMonitor
Macrum Reflect

WSCC - Just look it up, it's awesome. A console with every Sysinternals and NirSoft tools put together. Whoever showed me that, I'll love him forever.

Even better thank you!

Hope you enjoy your computer becoming a glorified bitcoin miner when you run this.

The miner is only installed with it if you mindlessly click, no different than getting viruses(mcafee) from installing adobe products.
