First of all, english isn't my first language, so if there's any misunderstanding because of it, tell me.

Now, for the actual problem(s).
Hi, i only made this account because i have those issues, while trying to fix them, i stumbled upon this website, and my journey was already getting frustrating, so i figured i should go ask here because it seems that you guys are way better at this than i am, so please, help me.

It starts like this: I try to play Hotline Miami, but, the game needs .net framework 3.5 to work, steam tries to install it, but it can't due to "Error 0x80004002: No such interface is supported", i start searching how to fix this, i go to Turn Windows features on or off to install .net framework 3.5, but it's blank, i try to fix this other issue with sfc /scannow, it says "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service", I TRY TO FIX THIS OTHER ISSUE WITH DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth BUT IT SPIRALS BACK TO Error 0x80004002, now i'm a little overwhelmed by this, also getting bored of it, please help. :(

Extra info that could be useful:

- I believe a similar issue (if not the same) has already been solved, check this thread.

- Also, i tried the same FRST fixlist from that thread, people around here say that doing something like that can kill your pc but fortunately it hasn't killed mine. (DON'T BE LIKE ME THO, I WAS JUST LUCKY).

- I've gone to Services to start Windows Module installer, didn't to anything, same for App Readiness (don't remember how they were related to my issues tho).

- Tried command net start DoSvc, didn't do anything. (also don't remember how it's related)

- Tried a super long command that i got it from here (i think it's obvious which one is the super long command), but before the command finished it's work i fumbled and my pc betrayed me, black screen, i had to turn my pc down then up to make it go back to normal, haven't tried again yet cuz it takes hours for it to finish and in my country it's already late.

- My Windows 10 version is Home Single Language build 10.0.19045 if that helps. (i hope that's the actual build and not a completely unrelated thing)

- Windows Update doesn't want to update, from what i've seen it's probably due to error 0x80004002 as well.

I think that's all i have to say for now, i will (try to) answer all questions as long as they're helpful, goodbye for now :)

Do you have a backup of your drive you could restore from? Do you have system restore points before making all these changes?

What I would do is an in-place upgrade, saving your files and apps. Download Windows 10

During the reinstallation, when you reach the part where it asks if you want to keep your files and apps, select this option. If you want to start fresh, choose a clean install.

With restoring you mean going back to a point where windows didn't have this issue? i don't think it would do anything, because, i forgot to tell but, i had this same problem with another game that wouldn't start, this was like a year ago (i use my pc since january 2024 btw), i didn't fix the problem back then because thanks to a patch of the game i could start it, but it didn't fix the rest.

Also, with in-place upgrade, you mean using the MediaCreationTool to do it, right? i already tried it, but it doesn't work, i got another error when i try to start it (0x80072F8F - 0x20000).

Did i miss something or i have to fix yet another problem?

I'm going to reach out to one of our more knowledgeable experts, as this seems to be more within his area of expertise. You've got some major corruption going on.

Just so I'm clear:

1. Windows Update does not work
2. You can't install .NET 3.5
3. You can't run dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth from an elevated command prompt.
4. You can't run SFC /SCANNOW from an elevated command prompt.
5. You can't run the MSMedia Creation Tool to perform an in-place upgrade.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Upload a copy of the CBS folder
  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\Logs folder.
  • Right-click on the CBS folder and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
  • Click on the Yes button here.

  • Attach the file CBS.zip to your next reply. If the file is too large to attach, upload the CBS.zip file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Hi,

Please do the following first to get more info about the Servicing Stack.

Download the
577bf0efb8088-FRST.png
Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:

Download the 64 bit version: - Farbar Recovery Scan Tool Link
  • Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
  • Right-click on FRST.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  • Press the Fix button.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally.
  • When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  • Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Here's the first fix.

Step 1. Download
67139f7e69a58-SFCFix-ico.PNG

Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

Great, please run the System File Checker as well and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.
Code:
SFC /Scannow

Perfect, please try to install the .NET Framework feature again using 'optionalfeatures.exe' from the command line or WIN+R and post the result.
