Used Chris Titus' debloat because a 5 star Youtube vid told me it would improve performance on Apex Legends.... all it did was break Apex Legends lol

So: I don't know what boxes I checked with the tool.

Immediately, what happened was - actually, Apex would play just fine. But in between the matches, when it went back to the menu, I would get a dx_device_hung or dx_device_error and the game would freeze and close.

A few hours later, this started to happen whenever I clicked my toolbar. Then my PC started blue-screening.

I was busy that day so I took it in to a tech, who I believe repaired Windows (my files remained, installed programs reset).

The tech told me the issue seemed to be caused by a program that was rolling my toolbar back to display Windows 7 style, that caused a problem when Windows updated. After he said that, I seemed to recall that there was also a 2 minute Windows update that morning and that the blue screen didn't start happening until shortly (immediately? not sure) after that.

However: I reinstalled the game, and...

once again, it plays just fine, but then when I cut back to the menu in between the matches, more often than not, I still get one of those same two dx_device type errors almost every time (occasionally I do get through).

This is why I never recommend that anyone follow advice from a "tech influencer", most of his tool is just running various commands to edit the registry. At this point, I would just do a complete clean install or revert to a backup before these changes were made.

Thanks. So I need to make sure my backup harddrive doesn't interfere with the install, right? I have two. I bought this PC premade from CyberPowerPC, and I have only managed to locate one of the HDDs: and the HDD is in the left of the two racks in the middle compartment from the back of the PC, hidden behind the motherboard when looking in from the side. I only see two cables coming in from the back end of that area behind the motherboard, so I am assuming I just need to unplug one of those?

Yes, just disconnect whichever drive is your backup and then check in UEFI/BIOS firmware that the disk is no longer being shown.

The issue I’m asking for help with is I’m not sure which cable it is (and I’d be concerned trying to dismantle the whole case to verify). This photo

shows the two cables that seem to be coming from the front of the area where I can see the HDD is in the back of the PC, and plugging into the motherboard in front of the RAM. Is there any concern with unplugging either of them? Is the thinner, wider one on top with several lines usually a SATA cable and probably the one to disconnect?
