Hi Guys,
I am facing a hair pulling frustration, if someone has a solution and can help me, I will be greatly greatfull and appreciate it before I pull all my hair out and become bald altogether.

First of all I hope I am posting this in the correct section of the forum.

I have an Asus laptop G74SX-BBK7 and has been very reliable and it has 3 usb ports on the sides and they have been working for quite awhile until lately, 2 of the usb ports brings out a window with the msg--Location is not Available ---G:\ is not accessible-----Access Denied, so I can't use these 2 ports, one port is accessible and I am using a wireless dongle for my wireless mouse at this port as it is ok but there is a problem with the other 2 ports and I need to use them. The other issue is that my bluray player port is also giving me this same msg so I can't play my cd's of dvd's. This is also saying Access is Denied.

Please help as I have tried alot of things taught in the googles and youtube for days and weeks and non of them had helped me to solve this issue, I have come to the conclusion that this could be a permission issue and I don't know how to fix that. Please the screenshots I've sent below.

Hi,

...2 of the usb ports brings out a window with the msg--Location is not Available ---G:\ is not accessible-----Access Denied,

Just to clarify, if you connect the flash drive or USB HDD to the USB port used by the wireless dongle it works without the Access Denied error?

Just so we won't provide suggestions you've already tried, could you share with us what you have tried so far to solve this problem?

Thank you guys, for the replys, for sleepydudes question--- If I connect my flash drive to the usb port that I use the dongle for the wireless mouse it is the same it comes with msg--''Access Denied'', but the dongle for wireless mouse works. So in fact all 3 ports plus the 'F:\drive for the dvd/cd player comes with this msg.

For Axe0: I have tried suggestions as ---go to Start>gpedit.msc>users configuration>adminintrative templates>system>removable storage access>click each of these, one at a time---1.-Removable disks:deny read access,2. Removable disk:deny write access and 3. All storage removable classes: deny all access and >policy setting >Check Enabled>Close off. Refresh the page. Next go to the same area and click them one by one and in policy setting, except now, check> Not Configured. And I refresh and it was not solved, as it is ment to by the youtube guy.

Next thing I did, it was suggested by someone in googles to----Run>regedit >HKEY>LOCAL>MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\ENUM\USB from the Menu Bar> select security> Permissions--in the dialog allow everyone to read the key, Make sure Allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object is selected , Retry the installation-----Did all this and it was not solved.

Next thing I did---Log into Windows as Administrator >right click on the file or folder to change permissions for....Select" Properties" Click the security tab--------AT THIS STEP MY PROPERTIES SOMETIMES IT DOES NOT HAVE THE SECURITY TAB , PLS SEE ATTACHMENTS, BUT AT ONE STAGE IT APPEARED and I was able to click on it >EDIT>ADD to add new user or group to the list>select that you want to change permissions for----SO AFTER I DO ALL THIS IT COMES WITH A MSG ----'-ACCESS DENIED'

Next I tried updating drivers for usb storage at device manager , there is an exclamation mark in one of the fesco usb port too and could be something to do with that, but I can't retify the problem there.

Thank you all looking into this I really don't want to format this laptop because I have too many stuff in it. Pls help. and thanks.

Have you tried the USB disc in another computer?

Does it work?

What version of Windows are you running?

Yes I have tried the same usb in another computer and it works, I've tried other usb many in fact and it works on other pc's and not on this laptop, and another thing is that I have a muilt-card reader for sd cards and even that slot or port comes with the same 'access denied' msg I forgot to mention about the muilt-card reader in my post earlier sorry.
I am running windows 7.

Thank you for this suggestion jcgriff2, but I can't open this thread because it is saying I don't have permission, I have sent an attachment
kind regards
Peter
