Updates can't be installed on reboot and changes are undone.
DISM failed 0x0000ffff, never seen that one.
SFC would not run.

Appreciate any help!

Edit: Failed to upload the CBS.zip apparently.

Hi @wvw,

Welcome to Sysnative Forums!

If you haven't already, please review the posting instructions here, and attach the requested log files. Without log files, our helpers will not be able to assist, and this will slow down fixing your machine.

If logs have been already been provided, our team of volunteers will analyse the provided log files to build a fix for your system. Please be aware that this may take several days from your initial post, due to the high volume of threads that we receive.

  • Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*).
  • Name this file ComponentBasedServicing (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Right-click on the saved file and choose Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder.
  • Attach the .ZIP file to your next post.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, please upload to Gofile or WeTransfer and just provide the downloadlink here.

Restart the machine.
Run the command sfc /scannow in an elevated commandprompt and report the result.
If it fails, copy the file C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\cbs.log to your desktop.
Zip the copied file and attach the zipped cbs.log to your next reply.

Everything looks good now. SFC ran and reported fixed corruption. Thank you Peter!

Great. Please provide the file C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\cbs.log to learn from.

I am curious where you were able to identify the problem packages. I have been learning to resolve update issues, but if it's not in the CBS log that's where I get stuck.

The repaired files are in the folder amd64_windows-defender-management-powershell_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.14393.0_none_1137c685b804c9a3 which is part of the standard Windows Server 2016 installation, not a particular KB.
So to get these you need another Windows Server 2016 machine.
