[SOLVED] Update Error 800B0100 installing KB2931354 on Vista SP2 32-bit

I'm hoping you may be able to help me with this problem. Windows update lists an important update to install:-

"Security update for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 on Windows Vista SP2 and Windows Server 2008 SP2 x86 (KB2931354)"

The update fails with error code 800B0100

I followed the advice given on the Microsoft support web site and ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter followed by the Sytem File Checker (sfc /scannow) followed by the System Update readiness Tool (CheckSur) none of which made any apparent difference. I tried one or two other things as well but I've kind of lost track of those. I then found this web site and hope that someone may be able to help.

I have run the SFCFix tool and have attached the log file which indicates that there are errors.

SURT Package replacement

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Click Here to download Packs.zip. Save this to your desktop
  2. Go to your desktop and Right-click on Packs.zip and select Extract All -> Click on Show extracted files when complete -> Extract
  3. A window will open showing a folder called Packs open this folder and copy all the contents -> Then paste all these files in the following path
    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages
  4. Run System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) tool again.
  5. Once SURT has completed please post the contents back into this thread. Log is located here: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

No change I'm afraid. I'm wondering if I copied the files to the wrong place. Packs.zip contains two folders: Manifest and Packages. So I end up with the files themselves in C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages\Packages\

I've copied the contents of Packs.zip into C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\ and although SURT has not finished yet it looks like its working this time when I had a peek at the log file.
 
Sorry about that, it looks like you picked up my mistake.

Can you please attach the following to your next post:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log
 
No worries I realised what the problem was with the path.

SURT completed and I think did what you intended. I now get a different error code when attempting to install the update - Code 8024200D. I also ran SFCFix in case that produced some useful info.

SURT results look good now.

Lets see what file SFCFix is seeing.

SFC /SCANNOW

  1. Click on the
    Win7Orb_zps4dae3b32.jpg
    button. Inside the search box type in CMD
  2. Right click on CMD => Choose Run as Administrator
  3. Inside the Command Prompt windows copy and paste the following command SFC /SCANNOW
  4. Please wait for this to Finish before continuing with the rest of the steps.

Convert CBS.log to CBS.txt

  1. Click on the
    Win7Orb_zps4dae3b32.jpg
    button => Inside the search box copy and paste the following command:

    cmd /c copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  2. Press Enter
  3. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please upload CBS.txt to this thread

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to you next post please upload via Dropbox or ge.tt
 
Done as instructed. cbs.txt is around 15MB so I've zipped it if that's OK. Thank you for you help.
