Hi @Slasherr00,

Welcome to Sysnative Forums!

If you haven't already, please review the posting instructions here, and attach the requested log files. Without log files, our helpers will not be able to assist, and this will slow down fixing your machine.

If logs have been already been provided, our team of volunteers will analyse the provided log files to build a fix for your system. Please be aware that this may take several days from your initial post, due to the high volume of threads that we receive.

Hi,

1. Why is this thread marked as solved, and what do you mean with IPU? (In Progress Unit or just ImPatient User)....
2. Why didn't you follow the Windows Update Forum Posting Instructions first as mentiond in the BOT message as well.
3. Attached you will find the repaired hive file.

Replace Drivers Hive Manually

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
  1. Download DRIVERS.ZIP and save to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on it and select Extract all.... Make sure the "Show extracted files when complete" is checked and click Extract.
  3. Now we have the DRIVERS file that we will be using to replace your current one.
  4. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config
  5. Right-click on the current DRIVERS file and select rename. Rename it to DRIVERS.bad.
Note: If you get an error that the file is in use, reboot your computer and then try again.
  6. Take the file from the Drivers folder on your desktop and paste it into C:\Windows\System32\config

Afterwards reboot the server and attempt to update. If it fails attach the latest CBS logs and the following logfile.

Upload the setupapi.dev.log file
  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\INF folder.
  • Right-click on the file setupapi.dev.log and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
  • Click on the Yes button here.

  • Attach the file setupapi.dev.zip in your next reply.

Hello Maxstar,

I just wanted to sincerely thank you for stepping in to help with the Windows Update issue related to the bad drivers hive, even after I had already marked the thread as resolved. I realize now that I was a bit impatient, and I’m sorry for that.

Your willingness to take the time to assist, even after the fact, really means a lot. Your insight made a real difference, and I truly appreciate your support. It’s people like you who make this community such a valuable place.

As I have limited downtime and today is my scheduled window, I’ll be creating one more thread shortly for the same issue just to get everything aligned properly.

Thanks again for being there. I owe you this one.

Best regards,
Slasheerr
