Unfortunately, I am unable to install Windows Updates. I ran scannow and there are errors which could not be repaired:banghead:. Please help....

I have attached the cbs log as a zip file. If anyone can tell me how to resolve this problem it would be greatly apprecieated.:thumbsup2::thumbsup2:

Please don't use Word formatting - it makes it very difficult to extract the needed data, and read the log.
Simply copy the log file to your desktop, zip it, and upload it.

SFC crashed before completing. - after finding hundreds of problems

Here's the crash details...

Not an error I remember seeing before.
Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from Use System Update Readiness tool to fix Windows Update errors
(you'll need to look in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft Download Center)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your SkyDrive Public folder so I can take a look - post a link in your reply.

Thank you for the information. As suggested I initiated the fix. IE: "Initializing installation... done!
Installing Hotfix for Windows (KB947821) (update 1 of 1)..." It has been running for approximately two hours now. Hopefully, it is not frozen. I just stopped Bitdefender [anti virus and firewall] just in case. I will let it run, if necessary, for the rest of today.

Thanks again

The tool can take some considerable time to install depending on the exact system configuration and history - so far as I recall, about 6 hours is the longest successful runtime.

If it takes longer, please force a reboot, then post the data anyhow - it should contain at least some useful data.

Right clicked on checkSUR and attempted to add to to winZip.. Error message is as follows: "You are trying to create a new Zip file on a disk that is read-only: C:\windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSur.zip". Can you tell me how to zip the file? Thank you

Copy the file to the desktop, and create the zip file there.

You have massive corruption.

I doubt that it's worth attempting to fix these, as it's likely that the registry is also damaged.
A repair install is the minimum required to fix this :( - and it's possible that this would also fail.
Back up your data to external media, in case the repair fails catastrophically, then attempt a repair install.

Thank you for your assistance... I have made an Image back up, but how do I simply back up my data... By data I am assuming that it is all the software, files, etc.? If the system fails during the upgrade and I have to completely reinstall Windows 7. Will I have to reinstall all the license keys for all my software programs?

Thank you.

Most of a data backup is done simply by copying the whole C:\Users folder to your backup device - although there are other more sophisticated ways to do it, this is still my favoured way.
You can also use the Windows Easy Transfer utility which will also copy settings from the old install - see the Windows Help files about that (it does have one or two shortcomings, such as not completely backing up things like Outlook accounts).

If worse comes to worst, and you have to do a reformat/reinstall, then you'll need the media and Product Keys for all installed software. You may get a lot of them by using Belarc Advisor to create a system audit. www.belarc.com - but check that you have all of them before beginning!
