Hi.

Brief description my situation:
3 weeks old notebook; custom (not OEM preinstalled) clean install from ISO file Windows 11 64 bit build 24H2; No drivers problem; No software problem, everything worked just fine,
until arrived Cumulative update (in subj.) in mid-January. This update simply cannot be installed even after a week of effort. Downloaded, installed to 100%, than installation error – 0x8007371b
after few seconds and icon "Repeat" in Windows Update menu, which is useless. CrystaldiskInfo - new NVMe M.2 drive, no errors, drive condition is good, ran for 52 hours.
sfc /scannow - Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth - No component store corruption detected. The operation completed successfully.
Yesterday I did DISM RestoreHealth from mounted Windows 11 24H2 ISO file, probably due to the attempts described below the system files were corrupted, but repairable; repaired successfully, but problem 0x8007371b persists.

What I´ve tried until now:
- Windows 11 online troubleshooter for fixing Windows Update. It found error, showed like fixed it, but it didn't help. The same result was with an old troubleshooter version through command msdt.exe /id WindowsUpdateDiagnostic .
- I did "Cleanup recommendation" (Settings\System\Storage), didn´t help.
- deleted various unimportant or temporarily files through Disk Cleanup menu.
- stopped external antivirus Bitdefender.
- various procedures, together called as "reset Window Update" (list of commands in command line, sfc and DISM scan, stopping/running services like Windows Update, cryptSvc, stopbits, deleting contents od SoftwareDistribution directory)
- test partition of C disk by disk tools (Local Disk/Tools) - no errors
- tried to uninstall the latest cumulative Windows update via Windows Repair (press "shift" when Windows restarts...) . Failed, probably because there is none of them in my Windows 11, the installation was clean from ISO file with build 24H2.
- tried to uninstall Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 24H2 for x64 (KB5049622). Successfully unistalled, but the problem persists, so I´ve installed it back. Others updates installed in Windows are for Office 2013 (old, I know), Windows Defender etc.
- cleaned all unnecessary files from Windows Update and other files founded by CCleaner
- Winddowsupdate fixer from Update Fixer didn´t help.
- downloaded standalone update from Microsoft Update Catalog. Standalone package of this cumulative update consist of two.msu files, KB5043080 and KB5050009. Installing package KB5043080 failed with error "Update is not usable for your computer" (downloaded right version for Win11 x64, neither for ARM nor for server), probably becouse it is already inside build 24H2, maybe... The installation KB5050009 package went quite strangely. Firstly it wasn´t successfull at the end od installation, but after I resized EFI partition by NIUBI Partition Editor from 100MB to 450MB, it succeeded. But it looks like it is only a one part od KB5050009, "security fix" for vulnerabilities, not all cumulative update KB5050009 with improvement, because real cumulative update is still being found by Windows Update service. What is strange, after that successfull installation of KB5050009 package from MS Catalog it isn´t on the list of installed updates, so it cannot be uninstalled from GUI. I tested uninstallation from powershell, failed with error "it is part of the operating system". Running KB5050009 .msu package again ends with an answer "It´s already installed".
- after I´ve resized EFI partition, I resized WinRE partition too (this helped me in Windows 10 for Bitlocker fix update two year ago), but the cumilative update KB5050009 still ends with an error 0x8007371b
- tried to analyze CBS.log as described by user "robrasil" at formu [SOLVED] - Error 0x8007371b when installing Windows Update KB5022282 and KB5019275 (for Windows 10, 2 years old. I think I was close, but in Notepad ++ I didn´t find "Changelist shadowed missing its manifest" so I failed. But still I think the problem will be very similar.
- tried two AI chatbots :-) without success, the advice was the same as what I had already tried.
So I'm left with the last option I know, which is to perform an in-place upgrade. This solution will work, during the reinstallation of Windows, the new cumulative update will be downloaded and incorporated into it. Even if there is no loss of data or applications, Windows settings will be changed and I would have to set them back up again. Honestly, if I had done in-place upgrade a week ago, I probably would have set the Windows back up long ago.

It wasn't exactly brief, I think, but it sums up everything I've tried.

Thanks for your help.

As requested by Maxstar in his post to another member, I am also attaching the Components hive and SideBySide Registry hive exports.

A small donation has already been sent on Jan 24, 2025. I think that one of the next updates released by Microsoft will fix this error, but I've been struggling with this for a long time, and I'd like to know where the hell the error is. Thanks for your help.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Please be careful with intructions and fixes from other threads, even when the issue looks like very similar.

Download
67139f7e69a58-SFCFix-ico.PNG
SFCFix and save it to your desktop.

Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Afterwards attempt to update. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

Hi Maxstar.

Sorry for the late reply, I've been away for 4 days.

Unfortunately, during my 4-day absence, Microsoft released a new cumulative update
KB5051987 for Windows 11 Version 24H2 and the original cumulative update KB5050009,
which crashed with error 0x8007371b, disappeared. Windows Update no longer finds it.
But before I successfully installed this February cumulative update KB5051987, I did everything
according to your instructions. Attached is the logfile SFCFix.txt.

Running the January cumulative update KB5050009 from package
windows11.0-kb5050009-x64_97aac2ab4f607b11d50ad2fd88a5841ee0b18dd5.msu from Windows Catalog
no longer simulates the error 0x8007371b. As it started, it ends with a notification that KB5050009 is already
installed on the system (which is only partially true; after I resized EFI partition, update KB5050009 was installed
from this msu package, but KB5050009 was still found by Windows Update as not installed).

Anyway, the problem was probably in the names of the system files in the WinSxS and Manifests folders,
(I was unable to identify right ones), and their entries in the registry.

I will definitely keep your fix in the system, because I don´t want to risk that the next cumulative update
would fail on error 0x8007371b. Perhaps even the February cumulative update KB5051987 would not be installed
without your fix, who knows.

Thank you for solving the issue, you are doing an excellent work, and the entire Sysnative team as well.
I have not found a similar service anywhere on the Internet.

Hi,

You're welcome. Glad to hear the issue has been resolved... (y)

Microsoft released a new cumulative update
KB5051987 for Windows 11 Version 24H2 and the original cumulative update KB5050009,
which crashed with error 0x8007371b, disappeared
The monthly updates are cumulative, so this means KB5051987 has replaced KB5050009, so you cannot install older updates when a newer update is installed.
