Unable to complete sfc/dism after windows upgrade to 1903

Background: I just upgraded my 64 bit Windows 10 Pro to 1903 a few days ago and installed the latest new updates (saw a lot at update center). Then I noticed that both sfc and dism are unable to complete their tasks so here I am.

Running sfc /scannow

The WOF driver encountered a corruption in the compressed file's Resource Table.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log

Running niemiro's SFCFix just defaults to dism and the result is the same as running the dism command above. After dism stop at around 4% the SFCFix.txt just displays no corruption found

Also I did a recent chkdsk /r and tried to do the commands above but still the same result.

Please do the following:

GSmartControl
Follow the instructions below to check your SMART status with GSmartControl:

Download the portable version of GSmartControl and save it on your Desktop;
Extract the zip file to your Desktop. Open the folder gsmartcontrol-1.1.3-win64 which should be located on your Desktop and double-click gsmartcontrol.exe to launch the program.
Identify your drive in the list (if recognized by the tool), and hover your mouse over it.
You should see something called: SMART status. It will either read: Enabled, in which case you should do the following:
Double-click on it to bring up its window (usually you'll find your drive by its size or its brand name);
Go to the Self-Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete);
Once the test is over, the results will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Please copy and paste these results in your next reply or take a screenshot;
Also, go in the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply;
Please note: If the SMART Status reads: Unsupported, stop and let me know.

sorry for the late reply I only have access to this system on weekdays.

The extended self-test doesn't finish, I retried it thrice and it doesn't move past 10% and I waited for hours even after it has passed the estimated duration given. Should I keep trying?

No, sadly, your drive is bad and you need to replace it. After the replacement, do a fresh install as this image has been corrupted.

Hello again,

Before I could replace the drive I was asked to do Dell's diagnostic test at boot time to see if it truly was the drive at fault. The result was surprising as no errors was found.

This could be a false negative result so next I did a chkdsk /r and sure enough errors was found and fixed

Attached CHKDSK_SCAN.txt for the result.

Now to check again I ran the extended self-test of GSmartControl again and finally the test was completed and no errors was found.

However the sfc and dism still has the same error result with the initial post

Maybe there's still hope to fix this?
