Hello,

I am unable to add AD DS and AD LDS Tools using the Add Roles and Features Wizard from the Server Manager on a Windows Server 2016 server (a VM in VMware). This server is the secondary in a Failover Cluster and Availability Group, the primary of which also has the same issue. At first there was some corruption found by sfc /scannow, but I fixed it with DISM using the ISO for my install media. I had hoped after the sfc and dism came back clean that the issue with the AD DS and AD LDS Tools would be fixed, but no joy. Any assistance you could provide in helping me repair whatever is blocking the install of the AD DS and AD LDS Tools would be greatly appreciated.

I have run the steps as described in the submission instructions before and after attempting the add roles and features wizard. I attached two sets of files in case something can be gleaned from them.

sfc /scannow and dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth both came back clean each time:

Code:
c:\>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

c:\>dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 10.0.14393.4169

Image Version: 10.0.14393.7426

[==========================100.0%==========================] The restore operation completed successfully.
The operation completed successfully.

Hello Maxstar!

FRST is done (log attached). I have a question:

Since this is one of my two servers that have this issue, are there any steps that we have done that need to be customized for the other server or have these steps been somewhat generic? This is my maintenance weekend, so I would like to fix this for my other server as well if these steps can be used as a sort of template for this particular issue. The servers have the same patch levels and the FC validation passed completely prior to this fix. As such, if I can replay this script on that server, I'll do so. Then I can get to configuring GMSAs. :)

Nevermind... I reread your last post, and this fix is only for that server...

Hi Maxstar!

The AD tools successfully installed on the server. Would you be willing to help me with the other or do I need to put in a new request to the forum? I am running the initial steps on that server now, so if I need to create a new post, I'll have the information to do so, but it should be the same as this post, just a different machine (probably with different IDs or GUIDs or whatever, but the same issue).

Regardless - thank you for your help with this! I really appreciate your assistance.

Hi,

You're welcome. Glad to hear the issue has been resolved, and yes please start a new thread for the other server...
