Microsoft blocks Trend Micro code at center of driver 'cheatware' storm from Windows 10, rootkit detector product pulled from site Trend Micro Rootkit Buster scanner app banned after cheating on Microsoft's driver certification test - MSPoweruser Trend Micro has been discovered cheating on Microsoft’s kernel driver security test suite. Click to expand... Apparently, Trend Micro designed the program to detect if Microsoft's certification test was evaluating the program. If testing was detected, the Trend Micro program altered its methods specifically to pass the certification test - Volkswagen style. If no test was detected, the program would use methods that would fail Microsoft's testing parameters. If you recall, Volkswagen intentionally inserted code in its cars' computers that would detect if emissions testing was being conducted on the car. If detected, the car's computer would alter the engine's pollution controls to pass the test. If no testing was detected, the computer would default to a higher performance but greater polluting (and emissions test failing) configuration. Volkswagen was fined $billions and one of the their executives was even jailed. Trend Micro's program is blacklisted and will not install on Windows 10 systems. I doubt anyone will be convicted of a crime and jailed, but someone should surely be fired and blacklisted from any future executive jobs in any security firm.
