Hmm, I'm just going round in circles with this start-up crashing. Sometimes I can get limited use before it BSOD's, sometimes not.
The memtest86+ cd burn wouldn't run on the system (but I'd only screw up the memtest86+ memory module tests and break the damn thing anyway, I'm no repair-man!)
On the occasions when it does load up I seem to able to use Windows Update again, but it refuses to install this one update: KB967723. It gives me the same error msg as what originally brought me here: 80070490 - so I guess that one's just not happening, even after all the fixes.
I downloaded it manually from
Download Security Update for Windows Vista (KB967723) from Official Microsoft Download Center - but it says it's not valid for my system (!) so I'll have to press on without update KB967723. I may get a few more sessions out of it, maybe not.
Thanks so much for your help though, I know it's a busy week for ya.
Luckily I don't have anything important saved on there. All my stuff's on my old(er!) desktop pc and backed-up fully, so I can work on that for now.
Like I said, it was time for a Macbook upgrade anyway so I think I'm gonna write off Ol' Black and thank him for 4 years' dutiful service.
Thanks and all best Tom!
Cheers, Pete
