Hi! I feel SO fortunate to have discovered the SFCfix tool for its demystification of Microsoft's confidential user requirements. Thanks very much for it.
I'm sorry if what I'm going to ask is FAQ. I looked for prior relevant posts.
What prompted me to use SFCfix is that, first, I suddenly noticed my Asus UX13E notebook wasn't producing sound via internal nor external speaker outputs, and troubleshooters found no problem. At the manufacturer website I searched for the latest driver for my model machine, uninstalled reinstalled that; didn't help. Sent them a support inquiry they wanted me to image the disk or RAR and have them do it. At some point during this I ran SFC and found "corruption".
Looking through Windows Update logs I found that WU had at some point installed an audio driver & overwritten all its associated files. I found its restore point, did a System Restore, and got me sound back. I was curious about why Microsoft is reporting to me via SFC that I'm "corrupt". I found and ran SFCfix and discovered I'm missing some sample media files from the WINSXS system folder, which probably got removed when running a third party debloater utility (WYSE Disk Cleaner probably). It had not adequately warned me of this consequence.
SFCfix offered (I think) to try extracting/expanding the missing files from an installation DVD (I run Windows Home Premium). I attached my UEFI DVD drive and asked SFCfix to continue but it was unable to restore the missing media and suggested I seek your counsel:
I couldn't find those files, compressed or otherwise, on the installation media, and I'm not confident I could restore them all correctly, with the proper sources, destinations and, probably most important, permissions.
I would be grateful for suggestions.
THANKS!!
