On Win & 64 bit when run sfc / scannow -- it found errors but could not fix one error.
Run sfcfix.exe without script to repair but it could not repair.

See the attached file --

I guess it needs a script to set it right. Please help me out. Thanks.

Hi,

Lets see if there are more things that need fixing...

System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
  • Download the System Update Readiness Tool (x64) and save it to some place, its a big download and eventually we need to run it several times, please keep the file
  • Run the tool. Its like an Update but it can take a long time to do the work. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running
  • Please attach to your post the log from the following location: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
    Note:
If the file is too big please Zip it and upload the ZIP file to a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here.

See the CheckSUR Log file attached --
It say - No errors detected.

CheckSUR ---.jpg

Then I run sfc and sfcfix.exe once again ---

sfc fix.jpg

It found one error -- did nothing about it -- but concluded -- directive completed successfully.
And for that 1 error -- contact sysnative forum for help. see the file attached.

My guess is that this error is connected with Windows Defender error 80070424 - (Win Defender - unable to TURN ON)
(see the screenshot)

Win Defender Error - Win7.jpg

And Windows Update shows --

Win update.jpg

Update Histoy.jpg

It may be noted that MRT is updated 3 times and a series of Win Defender AV updates are installed via Win Update where as Windows Defender or MSE is not installed on Win 7-- see the screenshot--

Action Center.jpg

What is going on? My guess --
All these issues are definitely connected as Win 7 may be using a common dll file or system file or component.

And that seems to be or is reflected as an error in --

CORRUPT: C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-s..on-wizard-framework_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17514_none_1478eaa56818c3c0\spwizimg.dll

This file seems to be misplaced ....in the computer/ OS.

Another guess -- MS while shifting from Win Defender to MSE to Windows Defender AV -- forgot to clean leftovers or some files in its old locations and just moved on ...

How to set it right?
My last guess -- An sfcfix script may be a solution ...

Small errors can wreck an otherwise good OS.....

Please guide. Thanks.

Then what?........

Hi,

SFC scan
  • Please open up a Command Prompt Window as a Administrator, instructions for Windows 7 or Windows 8 and 8.1.
  • Inside the command prompt window type or copy & Paste the following command:
    sfc /scannow
Note: This may take some time to finish. If the result is not "No integrity violations found" or equivalent please do the following:

Export the CBS folder
  1. Open the folder C:\Windows\Logs
  2. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy
  3. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS
  4. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder
  5. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created
If the zip file is too large to upload to the forum please share the file using a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here.

Hi,
Done sfc /scannow.
Result -- Found some corrupt files and could not repair....
See the CBS file attached.

Then.... my adventure ---
Run SFCfix.exe WITHOUT script

Now, I can use/install third party Anti-virus.

Hi,

It seems that the system is working better now!

I don't think that you find an entry on Start Menu of Windows 7 about Windows Defender, I checked my test machine and only if I use the search box to type defender it shows the entry related with the Control Panel applet.

That's right. I got to see the same as you have shown in the picture above upon "search".
So all is well with my Win7 Laptop.
Thanks for confirmation.
It has been a great adventure.
Corrections by SFCFIX.exe with scripts kick-started resolution to all problems.
Great tool!

Thanks a lot to you and Sysnative Team.

Obrigado!

I suppose you know that Windows 7 is no longer supported by Microsoft and that you should upgrade to Windows 10?

Hi Sleepy Dude,

I have one Desktop PC on Vista Starter 32 Bit -- working at its best.
I have a laptop that was doing well on Win XP Home Edition. That one I just switched over to Win7 Ultimate 64 Bit because the processor was not compatible with Win 10 otherwise I would have done it.
Anyway, Win 7 is still in use at large around Mumbai .....
Don't feel like throwing away a laptop just because Win 10 cannot be installed or MS does not support.
These are my VINTAGE COLLECTIONS -- spit and polish -- to maintain the SHINE and some good old games that I play on it.
I will buy another for Win 10 and an old one for Win XP also.
I support what MS doesn't!

Bye!
