Hi, I have been struggling with this problem for days now and I am loosing sleep.

After a number of programs stated showing error messages, I did an sfc /scannow. It reported a number of files it could not repair because the source file is also corrupted.

They include:
iesetup.dll
ieframe.dll
mshtml.tlb
mshtml.dll
iertutil.dll
jscript9.dll

I suspect two incompatible applications: Netbalancer and Connectify. They both suggested uninstalling and reinstalling the applications. I tried that and it did not work.

Can someone help me please?

Hello, and welcome to Sysnative :)

For some reason, I am not able to open your CBS zip file. Could you please have another try at uploading it? It looks to have been corrupt during transit somewhere.

Hopefully it will all go well this time, but if not, we can always use an alternative.

Thank you!

Richard

I had no problems with the zipfile, Richard?? (although the latest of the included CAB files may be corrupted)
CheckSUR is clear, apart from the usual IE10 mess.

The rest of the CBS log is remarkably error-free and I have to go back to 16/4 to find...

Thank you!

I actually just managed to get it out. Even 10 downloads across multiple computers and browsers kept hanging and then failing on the last second of downloading. Anyway, I got it repaired with my trusty Disk Internals Zip Repair. I should have brought it out ages ago: it usually does an amazing job :p

I'm just taking a look now.

Hello again :)

WARNING: This fix has been created specifically for tosime. If you are not tosime, do not follow these instructions as you may cause serious harm to your computer.

First, download a copy of tosime_SFCFixScript.zip from here and save it to your Desktop: https://www.dropbox.com/s/rw3csn8fxwg8rol/tosime_SFCFixScript.zip
Then download a copy of SFCFix.exe from here: https://www.sysnative.com/forums/downloads/sfcfix/, and also save it to your Desktop.
Single click on tosime_SFCFixScript.zip and drag and drop it on top of SFCFix.exe. SFCFix will open and perform a fix for your CheckSUR.log corruption.
A logfile called SFCFix.txt will open (and be saved to your Desktop). Please copy and paste the report into your next reply.

Thank you!

Richard

Hi Richard,

Thanks for helping me.

I carried out your instructions and have attached the SFCFix.txt file you asked for.

After I dropped the zip file on the fix file, I rebooted as instructed.
I noticed that my windows gadgets loaded for the first time since I had this problem.

In my enthusiasm, I installed Connectify hoping it would now work. It did not. I got the error message ""DispatchUI.exe - Bad Image. C\Windows\System32\ieframe.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator for support."
I uninstalled Connectify and rebooted.

Thinking Connectify may have caused the ieframe error, I repeated your fix. I then tried opening IE. It would not open.
I then tried running a few programs that generated ieframe related error messages. I got the same error messages.

I hope my repeating the fix did not create a problem.

Please let me know what I should (or should not) do next.

Thanks again for all your help. I appreciate what you are doing.

Tony

Hello again Tony :)

Don't worry, I am not concerned about things still not working. That was only the first step of a multipart fix, and I didn't expect things to be completely right yet.

In fact, in several places, all the script did was pre-position the files for SFC to replace. Since SFC hasn't yet been re-run, it is no surprise to me that some files are still corrupt.

And don't worry about repeating the fix, it won't have caused any harm. But there is also no need to reinstall Connectify, re-run scripts, etc., until I tell you to. But don't worry, it really won't hurt, it just won't help so you may as well not spend time doing it :)

Anyway, what I do want you to do is to re-run SFC. I then want you to post me a new C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log, and I will then post additional scripts as a result of that.

Thank you!

Richard

Well, there is a good deal of improvement in that SFC log, so I am very pleased. We are not quite done yet, but lots of progress made. :)

Please run this next SFCFix script in exactly the same way you did the last one (drag and drop on top of SFCFix.exe) and post the logfile.

Thank you!

Richard

If we are going to spend time working with someone, the least we can do is be friendly with it :p And anyway, life in general is more pleasant when people are friendly and happy to each other :)

But back to your point, you certainly might like to give forum work a try in whichever discipline is the best for you. For me, its Windows Update because I am completely passionate about it :p I get to work on all of these rare error codes I would otherwise never meet, I get the satisfaction of chatting to and helping people to solve their problems, I get to meet lots of other amazing and like minded staff and non-staff. It doesn't feel like work TBH, I enjoy it immensely.

But it can take up a lot of time, and it certainly isn't for everyone. Certainly do not feel pressured in any way into doing it, but if you would like to give it a go, wherever and on whatsoever topic, that would be incredible. If after a short while real life gets in the way, or you realise that it just isn't for you, then that would never be a problem. It really doesn't matter whether you have only answered a couple of questions in that time, because those questions have still been answered, and those people will still be grateful for the help you gave them.

In all, it can be an extremely pleasant experience, but please don't feel pressured into it or carrying on if it isn't for you :)

Richard

Hello Richard,

I have attached the SFCFix.txt created by the script as this looks like a log.
Please let me know if you want any of the other log files.

Hello again :)

I am really sorry about the delay. It has just been one of those weeks :(

Can you please re-run SFC one more time and post another CBS folder? SFC pended something for replacement over reboot, and I want to check to see whether it went through successfully.

You have a slightly unusual issue at the moment. There doesn't seem to be much corruption left, but a bit of confusion between hardlinks and file versions.

All should be fixable though :)

Hello Richard,

No problem, I guessed you must be very busy, especially as you are so good. You must be in high demand.

I have attached the latest CBS log.

My system is running very well compared to before.

I look forward to your response.

...Tony

Thank you so much for your understanding, Tony.

Unfortunately, things are not good. Initially, you came to me with 6 corruptions. I fixed them, and was slightly confused when you re-ran SFC and one of the corruptions had returned. I was like :confused2: as I was sure I had fixed it correctly.

So I ran SFCFix, and was even more confused when it picked up the same 6 corruptions...but of another complete set of file versions. I was like did I just replace entirely the wrong six files???? But I looked at your second SFC log, and corruption count had definitely reduced from 6 --> 1, so I had clearly done something right. So I looked back at the original logs, and my fix, and it was definitely correct. So maybe SFCFix was wrong????

Either way, it was all pretty confusing. Anyway, it's been nearly a week now, and in that time, you have developed another 45 corruptions. My fixes were not wrong, you are just developing corruptions at a faster rate than I could fix them. The situation has deteriorated from about 6 corruptions last week to about 60 this week. This level of corruption doesn't occur without hardware failure, TBH (and looking at your actual corruptions, they are probably caused by about 15 individual corruptions).

What I see is harddisk failure, and at an alarmingly fast rate. What you need to do is back up absolutely everything you cannot lose, and immediately. We can test hardware, try to ascertain whether the hard disk is actually failing or whether there is some other problem eventually, but right now, your absolute priority has got to be immediate and urgent backups.

I will not proceed until you have assured me that everything important has been backed up.

Thank you, and I am very sorry to have to be the bearer of this news :(

Richard

Hello Richard,

Thanks for this information. I see you as the bearer of good news because you have saved me from potential data loss. So, I say a double thank you.

I have a backup application (Ocster) that runs in the background. However, I don't have a lot of confidence in it as it has been giving me error messages recently. Therefore I have copied most of the information in my C:\ drive to an external hard disk.

I use Wisecare 365 as a general system clean up utility. I only installed this a few months ago and I suspect it might have something to do with this problem.

Anyhow, I am ready to continue with the diagnosis.

Tony

If WiseCare is related at all to WiseFixer, then it's almost certainly the cause (or at least a trigger) of your problems.
WiseFixer has caused many problems in Win7 due to removing registry entries for critical system services, amongst other things, so I would avoid at all costs, anything from that stable.
Looking at the other products offered by the same company, I get the impression that they are masters of the craft of selling snake-oil, rather than the art of writing good. safe, software :)

Thanks Noel. WiseFixer has the same look as WiseCare. I notice they also sell a dll repair application. I will uninstall it as it is not worth the risk. Thanks again Noel.

Hello Richard,

I guess you must be very busy. This is an update to let you know where I am.

I have bought a new hard drive to replace the two hard drives that were in my system.
I have restored the operating system and data files by cloning the C: drive to the new hard drive.

I have just performed a sfc /scannow and I will attach the results to this post.
I look forward to a new SFCFix, now that a faulty drive has been pretty much eliminated as the cause of the corrupt files.
